Happy 30th Anniversary to The Legend of Zelda!

Today's the day! Exactly 30 years ago on February 21, 1986, the first Legend of Zelda game went on sale in Japan. So join us in celebrating Link's 30th birthday, won't you?

As you all know, we've been giving away 30 copies of that original NES adventure to celebrate the series' major milestone moment, and I've got six new winners to announce right this second. They are:

- Wilson, a.k.a. "wilflare"

- Josh Caudle

- Jeremy Benoit

- Justin Do

- Alejandro Valere

- Kyle Emch

Congratulations to you new winners! The random number generator selected your names from the list this time around, so you've scored yourselves a free Wii U or 3DS download of Zelda 1 just for being an NF patron. I'll be in touch with you soon to help you claim your prize!

And everyone else, fear not! The generosity continues with a further 10 copies to give away between now and the end of February, so you've still got double-digit chances of winning as of this moment. Stay tuned to see if your name pops up in our next Patreon update!

We've been continuing to make great progress here on Patreon, by the way, as we've risen further in the all-time rankings all the way up to #35 overall, and we're just a few more subscribers away from claiming the #34 spot as of this writing.

Also, we've only got two more weeks left before we'll be publishing our next issue: Issue #20 that celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda with a massive year-by-year retrospective on the series' entire history and new reviews of Twilight Princess HD and Hyrule Warriors Legends, along with various other Zelda-ish goodies packed inside too. If you've got friends who have been dragging their feet getting signed up here, kick them in the pants and tell them to get on it now!

I'll likely send out one or two more emailed reminders to our past subscribers to let them know the cutoff date is fast approaching, so thank you for your patience and understanding when those emails show up in your inboxes. You've already done what you need to do! I'm just trying to make sure everyone else has plenty of reminders, because I just know that we're going to get to April or May or June and I'm going to be getting confused emails from some 2015 subscribers asking why they haven't been getting issues mailed to them any more. :p

Until next time, everyone!

P.S. One parting question: What Zelda game are you playing today to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary? Post in the comments below to let me know!

Happy 30th Anniversary to The Legend of Zelda!

Comments

I can't believe I actually won something. I never win any raffles, giveaways, sweepstakes, or anything like that. I guess I got lucky this time.

I was playing Skyward Sword :)

Gail..I just preordered Twilight Princess HD for wiiU so can't wait to get it...... Just started playing XenoBlade Chronicles X........

Does playing Smash Bros and making a video with Level 9 Four Swords Toon Links fighting each other count?

I'm currently playing Skyward Sword and passed what's arguably the saddest scene of the game (those who played would know - avoiding spoilers here [: )

The massive year by year retrospective on the entire Legend of Zelda series is what I'm looking forward to the most! I didn't think I could get anymore excited about Nintendo Force, but reading that has made me giggle with joy. I've been playing A Link Between Worlds a lot and finished the main quest last night, but there are some side quests to finish and treasures to find still, so I'll be playing that today. Congratulations to all of the winners! If any of you have not played A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS yet, I highly recommend it! The developers did a wonderful job at weaving an adventure that has some new twists, but also sprinkles Easter Eggs throughout to honor past Zelda games. The soundtrack is phenomenal at mixing classic Zelda tunes with new music that instantly belongs. Also, the 3D really does help make the world even more immersive by adding layers of depth. It's not gimmicky at all and works so good.

Minish Cap, cause why not...

I think I'll play Link's Awakening today. It's a very underrated game and it's always been one of my favorites. It was also my first introduction to the LOZ series.

Can't believe it's only two weeks to go til a new issue! And I'll be attempting to play some more TriForce Heroes today...if I can tear myself away from Fire Emblem!
