Twilight Princess HD Winner & 30 Days of Zelda Giveaways!

The month of January is now in the books, and thanks to all of you, we closed out that calendar page with 1,300 subscribers already pledged here through the all-new Patreon page! Thank you all again for your quickness in making the transition with us here to our new subscriptions hub!

I promised you all a free game giveaway, and I'm here to deliver! Every patron who was signed up by midnight Eastern last night had their name entered into a drawing to win a free copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. I then used a random number generator to select one winner from among the 1,300 of you, and the name that came back was . . .

Chase Pennington!

Congratulations, Chase! I'll be contacting you via Patreon's direct messaging to work out the details of delivering your prize to you.

But wait! Don't worry if you didn't win that first prize – because I've got 30 more now on the table!

This month, February 2016, marks a full 30 years since the original Legend of Zelda was first released in Japan – all the way back on February 21, 1986. The original Legend of Zelda also just so happens to be my favorite video  game*! So I thought, hey, why not share Link's first-ever quest with all of you?

So I'm going to give away 30 copies of The Legend of Zelda throughout the 30 days of February! (OK, February only has 29 days. So we'll do two drawings on the 21st, the actual anniversary date.)

Every single day this month, every patron who's signed up here at the new NF Patreon page will be entered into a new drawing to win the classic Zelda. So if you're already a patron, you'll have 30 chances to win! If you're a patron who joins after five days have already gone by in February, you'll have 25 chances still left to win! And so on and so forth, until Leap Day closes out this particular calendar page with one last drawing.

If you're selected as a winner, you'll get to pick either a Wii U or 3DS download code to redeem for a Virtual Console version of The Legend of Zelda. (Yes, I used images of the old NES gold cartridge in the giveaway promo graphic. But I don't think I can bid to win 30 different eBay auctions to nab that many carts, so digital it is.) And if you win one of the drawings, but you already own the first Zelda? Well, pass your download code along to a friend! It'll be like I just did your shopping for you for their next birthday present.

Thanks again for your patronage, everyone! And good luck in the next 30 prize drawings! I'll be back again tomorrow to let you know who the first winner of Zelda 1 is. See you back here soon!

*I also occasionally claim that Dr. Mario is my favorite video game, since it's the game I've played with my Dad for going on a quarter-century now. But for single-player adventuring? I've always loved the very first quest through Hyrule.

You guys are the best! Glad I got on board.

This is awesome

Katie

Thanks! It's awesome to go back and play it today, seeing how elements from it have continued to inspire all of the more modern sequels!

Awesome idea! I played the first one back when I was a wee little kid (didn't get very far... I was too young to really understand what the heck I was doing, lol), but never bothered to get it on the virtual console.
