Diamonds are a girl's best..... wait?
Added 2026-02-04 18:00:16 +0000 UTCI was just waiting on a new project which is 'running' at the moment and I thought I'd look up how much it'd cost to add some extra RAM to one of my workshop PCs...... what the flippin' heck!? I knew people were saying RAM prices had gone bonkers, but seriously!!?
So I dug around some boxes for some old RAM chips, as I reckon I could buy a small yacht for the cost of a 64GB stick now.... and then it struck me....
If RAM is more valuable than diamonds now, then surely RAM becomes the new 'must have' jewellery item for women who want to show off???
You heard it here first - I'm waiting for my first Tiffany RAM Necklace.... although I could probably only afford a DDR2...... :)

2026-02-12 18:54:03 +0000 UTCMan I bought a stupid amount of RAM for my computer about 2 years ago. I just checked and the same amount of ram is 3 to 7x more expensive now (depending on the brand). This marks the only time I've ever bought on the good side of a price upswing. LOL.

2026-02-04 18:52:20 +0000 UTCThat’s why I just bought a 2013 Mac Pro with 128 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 12-core Xeon E5, and 2 TB of SSD for $400 from eBay four weeks ago. Suitable for spacious RAM needs that don’t require the latest and greatest GPUs or CPUs. It's great for virtual machines with Monterey because of driver stability as the base OS. The only catch is that I prefer VMware Fusion, and it’s tough to get the latest version, even though it’s free, because of import controls, even in the United States.  Does anyone know how to get it on their website? Broadcom is a train wreck. I may end up using Parallels instead, but I prefer VMware. You would be surprised how snappy this system is. I use Ubuntu in a VM to increase compatibility with it and can save snapshots if something goes wrong, which is always an issue with Ubuntu. I think these prices aren’t coming down for a long time because of AI's monopolization of hardware, and it’s time to start looking for old equipment.
