Coming up on July 2

Does anyone remember the 1972 Club of Rome report about the "Limits to Growth"? How good were those predictions and what are we to make of Elon Musk's claim that we should worry about not having enough people on the planet, rather than too many? On Saturday we'll look at what science has to say about that.

Same 🙂

He was live streaming on utube trying to sell people on the idea of bitcoin, just days before the long bitcoin slide started. I will always be a fan of Greta Thunberg, whose contribution to the world will be felt long after Musk is living on Mars.

I take everything he says with a handful of salt.

"Elon Musk's claim that we should worry about not having enough people on the planet", as he seeks to colonize other worlds. Only a billionaire could get away with such nonsense.

Taking off from Colleen, this is such a common theme throughout history -- I just found an overpopulation reference in Jules Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon". The problem seems to always sort itself out, either with bad situations (forces sterilizations, famine) or good (more efficient food growing and distributing practices, birth control). Overpopulation also seems to be more of a local problem rather than a global one. Furthermore, many national economies require population growth to function properly and fund things like social security for the old and infirm. That's it, this is way too complicated for me at this hour, I'm going back to bed.
