Coming up on Jan 8th

It's become difficult to talk about climate science because the topic is so politicized. That's really unfortunate, I think, because how can we sort out the politics without discussing the science? Today I want to pick up a topic that you have almost certain read about in the past years: extreme event attribution. That's the idea that you can attribute certain extreme weather events to climate change. How does this work? And how reliable are the numbers? I explain this on Saturday.

Oh wow!

I'm originally from California and now live near Seattle and I've lived through some very hot summers growing up. Yet what I experienced here last summer was like nothing I've ever seen. It was like that level in Super Mario where the sun is trying to kill you. I stepped out for only a couple of minutes to pick up my mail and the sunlight HURT. Then, we just got through a cold snap that had us down to temperatures as low as I've ever seen them up here since I moved here in 1991. I happened to be in Canada over Christmas and it was 7 degrees F one morning. It's like the weather has lost its rudder. Anything can happen, and that 'anything' is probably something you won't like.
