One technology that's been around for a long time, fell out of view, but is now coming back again is supersonic or even hypersonic flight. Is it all just hype? Or will we really see super-fast airplanes in the near future? How much do we need to worry about the supposed arms race between the United States, Russia, and China? At this point, the only real improvements are those that destroy the earth less. NextGen vehicles have to go the same distance on less fuel and less emissions. This should become a natural law of conversation. Otherwise, the improvements are not sustainable and at some point the earth will let us know how badly we are doing (e.g. half the world on fire). As far as fast military vehicles are concerned, planes will be computer controlled so the plane's structural integrity is all that needs to be considered. I think the free world has the edge on this because Russia and China will spend too many resources spying and hacking they way to the plans in free school. Eventually they will realize, just like many university students, doing the hard work is easier than cheating.
