It was 10 years ago...

The accident broke her back and legs. It was a horrible fall. The surgeon saved her legs with enough hardware to build a bridge but that couldn't help reconnect her back. Her back is now held by pins and plates. Without them, she would not be able to sit up straight. With her T4 through T12 crushed, the nerve damage was irreparable. The pins and plates are the only things that holds her up... giving her some way of sitting up straight. Her nerve damge will never recover. She is lucky that the injuries did not affect her upper body.

Over the years, her feet continued to deformed because of the random spasm. No matter how diligent she was with the prosthesis and physical therapy... It was useless. Her legs slowly shrunk and her feet deformed.

The atrophy did not affect her. She is proud to show off her feet. She believed that is what makes her special. It is not forever! She will feel her feet again. She will stand again...

NO!

She will walk again.

As her muscles wasted away, her chances of ever feeling or using her legs deminished.

The chance of her using her legs for even a twitch is close to 0.00001%

But whenever her legs uncontrollably spazzed..

Hope reignited in her mind.

"Maybe, just maybe, I will walk again. Signals are still going through my legs."

Sometimes, hope is more distructive than truth.
