Flimpo Friday Update - What we've been up to! (2/21/2025)

Hi everyone! Milo here- I'm sorry it's been a while since our last proper Friday update. Due to some difficult personal circumstances, we felt it was best to take a break from our social media pages. Don't worry, we're all OK- and thank you to those who expressed concern or wished us well during our hiatus! Things are going a lot better now, and our social media break has been a great opportunity to get some work done and re-evaluate how we want to present ourselves online from now on.

Mandelbrot Hall:

It's been almost 6 months since we sent out our BackerKit survey, and we want to lock all the merch orders as soon as we can! If you were a Mandelbrot Hall backer and haven't yet filled out your survey, please check your email and do it ASAP! Once we have enough of them in, we can finally start packing and shipping your orders. We can't wait for everyone to receive their merch!

In production news, we've started the thumbnails on a revised draft of the script- and principal recording is set to take place during the month of March. We spent longer than we expected on the script, but thankfully it is paying off.

Upcoming Conventions & Festivals:

We may have been gone from the digital world for a few weeks, but here are a few opportunities to see us in the real world coming soon!

• MoCCA 2025, at The Society of Illustrators in NYC

  • I will be representing Studio Flimpo at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) booth along with two other alumni! Ren and Reid will also be present at the fair, just not at the table.

• TAAFI 2025 in Toronto, Canada

  • All three of us will be panelists at TAAFI this year! We plan on showing a clip from the Mandelbrot Hall animatic while we're there- so please come by if you're in the area! It's an amazing film festival that's 100% worth the visit, even if you ignore us completely.

Let's talk Social Media 

We don't have an exact date, but I can confidently say our hiatus will be ending in March!

When the three of us were blessed with social media success in the early days of our studio, we wanted to ensure we would remain a vendor animation studio and not become "content creators". We know you guys love our short form behind-the-scenes videos, but we're animators too- and we want to dedicate some of that effort into making original animations! We're going to try a rotation based system where one of us posts a new animation every week- Patrons will get to see them one week early! I hope it will be both creatively rewarding and equally fun to watch for you all.

That being said- if there's any specific thing from our social media that you want to see us do more of- please tell us in the comments! More livestreams? A long-form video series? Some other third thing? Tell us all about it!

Also- we will indeed not be posting on X (Twitter) anymore, for the exact reasons you're probably thinking. Many of you have suggested we start using BlueSky, so we made one! We also have a Tumblr now. We'll still be using TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram as usual.

TL;DR:

Took a break from social media to take a much needed breather, and we're coming back in March. Principal recording is starting soon for Mandelbrot Hall, and please fill your surveys if you haven't yet so we can ship merch soon. During aforementioned break, realized we wanted to start focusing more of our effort towards original animations and less on behind-the-scenes videos- but they won't be going away. We won't post on Twitter anymore because it sucks, but we have a BlueSky and Tumblr now in addition to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

Thank you all so, so much for your support both during our hiatus and in general. You all inspire us a great deal and we can't wait to get back on our feet and make the coolest stuff we can imagine.
