Hello, it is me, Magbo

⚠️ This is a long text post ⚠️

TLDR: DM me if you want to give money to make me finish sketch/doodle NOW so you dont want wait on me to finish it on my own time

I draw a lot of stuff. Most of this stuff lingers as a sketch or doodle for a good while before I get around to finishing it. People have been asking me “what can we do to make you finish one drawing or another?” So, I cooked up a few visual aids to help me address this topic.

As you’ve seen so far, I try to juggle commissions and personal work. I like commission money, but I also like working on my own projects. I usually do this between commissions, or while waiting for commissioner feedback I’ll pull up one or two personal drawings and work on them.

The way I do pictures is a bit hard to explain. While commissions tend to follow an orderly queue, my personal work is often much more ambiguous. Ideally, I’d like to see the majority of what I’ve left unfinished - finished, and that could take a long time. but unlike commissions, I do not have any kind of properly structured queue of what I’m working on and when, it mostly depends on what I end up pulling out of my WIP vault on any given day. As such, all the personal Sketches and Doodles I make are essentially in a limbo queue where every one of them is potentially the very next or very last thing I plan to move to the next drawing stage.

That's where YOU (all the people who've been asking me about this) come in

If there is a particular sketch or doodle that’s been sitting in the WIP vault for a week or a year (or more) that you’d like to see dusted off and finished (finally) - you can grease up the personal work limbo queue to make it happen sooner, rather than later, for a significantly reduced commission price (and get your name in a hall of based chads).

Commissions tend to be a more personalized experience of having your idea turned into a picture and are, in turn, both pricier and start at the bottom of my current commission queue (which is very long). The process of drawing said commission can also take a while depending on any changes I allow from commissioner input. I also tend to be a bit picky when it comes to commissioner ideas. On the other hand, I pump out many more personal work pictures a month than commissions, and if you’d rather not leave it to chance - one of those pictures can be the one you’ve been hoping to get finished. However, in sponsoring personal work you would get less input on the picture (except possibly some minor change requests or additions which would be up for consideration).

And I know what you’re thinking “how much money?” Well, that’s where I wish I could be more specific. It would have to be on a case-by-case basis depending on what my vision for a specific picture is and at what stage the picture is currently at. To explain further I will need to address the terminology I use when referring to my drawings as every artist seems to have a different definition of these terms.

I essentially see the process in 3 stages. While not technically equal 3rds, I’ll assume they are for the purpose of pricing.

Doodles are what I end up posting at the end of each month, and also the first stage of the commission process. These are rough drawings, sometimes with color, to help get the idea across. They’re often wonky and tend to be quite rough around the edges.

Sketches are polished drawings which doodles get upgraded to. They may be less interesting to look at due to lack of color, but they are what they need to be for me to start coloring them. I don’t shade or color the sketches because the next step in my process is to fully color and render the image anyway. Having temporary colors on the sketch would just be a waste of time.

The price of requesting a sketch or doodle be finished is going to be in the $100-$200 range, depending on the stage of the image. Using the Lapras images above as a reference point, the sketch (middle) would be closer to the $100 end of the range, and the doodle (left) would be closer to the $200 end of the range. If a doodle or sketch is very complex, or has more than one character, the price could possibly be higher than 200$.

  • I’d like to clarify that I do NOT plan to stop finishing any of my personal sketches or doodles. I’m not trying to come across as a scumbag money-grubbing goblin, I just wanted to offer an option to those who’ve been asking for specific personal drawings of mine to be finished, and would prefer not to wait for me to finish it on a whim.

If you are interested in this offer - you can either DM me on patreon or on discord or send me an email, up to you. If you have any questions let me know.
