Look at it from Swifts perspective. You have a rival pack who's going to hunt you down, you're too injured to realistically escape via your initial plan, and you have a marten who says that there is as place you could be safe. You know that securing food is going to be essential for your survival, and that these woods DO have plenty of prey available. So you take the gamble on listening to the marten in the hopes that they have a larger community that hunts the abundant prey in this forest. While it may seem strange to work alongside those you'd normally consider prey, at least there's common ground in that you're both predators. You'd be able to put that aside assuming they'd be able to assist in the hunt. Especially given the fact that these prey animals seem to be much more dangerous than normal prey. When you show up to the shores you find the marten talking to the prey, your initial hopes appear to be wrong. So as a last saving grace, you ask if this is just the new way of hunting and gathering food. In your mind, prey animals ARE your primary food source, they eat all the other food so you're left with having to eat them. Trying to compete with them for food is out of the question. So when the marten responds by saying that you can't hunt here or else you'll be killed, they're saying that this isn't the place you were hoping for. That you can't provide food for your family here, and that the person you were expecting to work alongside is just another prey animal like all the others. They offer you a small amount of food, so you take that as a hint to leave knowing you're outmatched in this situation. But you have to let them know that you're not going to be intimidated by them, hoping that it'll at least keep them from hunting you down as well.

My only qualm is that she came here specifically to find refuge for her family. And her actions here don't really speak to that. My theory is that wolves need to always project strength. A wolf pack wouldnt accept someone who looks weak, or comes to them with empty hands and need the pack to survive. So this is Swift trying to be intimidating, so her target audience is more inclined to let her and her family join them. Or she is vetting them, to see if this could actually be a safe place for her family if she decides to go there. If I was her, I wouldnt want to go join a bunch of weaklings that NEED me to survive, when I am trying to find a place to help protect my family.

I love the contrast between Rask’s expression and the fear/aggression on the faces of everyone behind him
