I’m eager to see their response to knowing a rabbit killed seral.

“Front… towards.. enemy?”

I like to think the gasp was for dead seral. It's funny to me to imagine that his death only gets a moment of surprise from them and that's it. "Oh no! Anyway,"

Ah, thank you! I appreciate it when people point stuff like that out, it's easy to miss when I've been staring at a page for hours. I'll fix it soon!

Also, don't want to be picky, but it seems Swift's injury is not present in the last panel with them all hugging.

I am so glad that I can breathe. I do wonder if Hemlock stopped herself, or if someone stumbled upon her, like Rask or possibly Oren if he went looking for Rask.

Whoa yo Hemlock took Seral’s tail as a trophy!

Atta girl, Hemlock!!! I'm so glad the family is together! Now looking forward to if/when Swift and Rask meet again. I'm also wondering when Swift will make the connection between the hare that killed Seral but spared her pups, the fact that Rask mentioned a hare wielding fire, and the hare she heard about in Gristle's stories.

Short answer, yes, there is a language barrier between predators and prey. The difference is comparable to a thick accent that either party needs to parse, like a regional dialect of whatever 'animal language' is.
Longer answer: I felt like writing and drawing a protracted scenario where Rask is learning the prey's language and vise-versa through Egg would be really boring (for me). This was right around page ~75 when I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep working on the comic, so my goal was to get to the parts that were interesting to me. I opted to short-cut the language-learning process. To explain that, my thinking is animals of a region share an ancient common root of language so it's easier to break boundaries, where-as even Rask would struggle to speak to another marten from say, analogous-Europe, and speaking to European prey would be almost impossible.

Hi Teagan I would like to ask you something because I am very curious about this. If it won't be a spoiler. Could a predator and a herbivore communicate with each other? I already know that herbivores have to speak slowly for predators to understand them, but would a herbivore understand what a predator is saying to it? On page 280 we see that Cedar does not understand what Rask is saying to Swift. Do predators have to speak differently somehow when they want to talk to a herbivore?

Hi Teagan, do you think it might be time to reveal that the bobcat that Hemlock was wearing in chapter 1 was a full grown adult and not a kit for non-patreons?

It's kind of ironic that the raven that not so long ago lead Seral is now feasting on his body. It seems Hemlock took a small souvenir but apparently wasn't able to hurt the pups (fortunately!). I'm happy to see the happy reunion of the family. Now I wonder if they will ask for the sanctuary...

The framing with the crow is amazing, had me worried even more than last week for a second. I'm happy the pups turned out okay. Amazing stuff as always.

My head-cannon is that Hemlock wears Serals tail and dresses up like the fox-tailed warrior lady from the Conan The Conqueror movie.

I am genuinely surprised. I thought she was more unhinged than that. But I'm relieved, nonetheless. :)

I think Hemlock's past experiences with loosing young ones kept her from killing the pups.
