WIP - PG 217

Here's a WIP breakdown of a panel from an upcoming page! No spoilers, just Rask surprised about something!

I have a couple more step-by-steps of panel in the WIP tag (specifically this one from page 124 is a deep dive into a panel start-to-finish), but here you can see the steps between thumbnail, sketch, inks, flat colors then background, character shading/highlights, and coloring the line art!

(Oh-- and to add, I try to keep my pages around 5-6 panels per page. If it has more panels than that, or any large, extensive backgrounds, the page probably took me closer to 15 hours of work.)

Quick answer - the average page is about 10-12 hours of solid, focused work, start to finish. Longer answer-- it really depends on the page itself, how many panels it has, etc. A more accurate metric is how long a panel takes-- a simple panel with just a single character and limited background takes an hour or two, depending on how focused I am and if that day is a drawing struggle-fest. A panel with a large background takes 4-8 hours, and the time adds up for each character/object in the panel-- each is another thing to ink, flat color and shade.

Hey! How long does does it take to do an average page start to finish for you?

Thanks! I'm going to try to post a few panel WIPs each month going forward. :]

I love these WIP breakdowns, so cool to see. And it shows how much work and attention to detail goes into every panel.
