Hah, no worries-- probably doesn't help that I use European names for some animals (like the wolverines/gluttons!) :]

Teagan Gavet

Ah yeah I tend to mix up locations of the comic as almost all creaters in it (or at least an equivalent) can be found in europe, so I tend to "displace it" to my continent... my bad .-.

Ah-- no, they are not African animals. They are pronghorns, prairie dogs and javelinas (aka collared peccaries,) all native to the American southwest. Oren's Forge takes place in someplace analogous to the Black Hills region of South Dakota, so Oren traveled south a good ways to find the Conclave. Edit to add-- the Conclave itself is based on Mesa Verde and other such cliff dwellings in the area! https://www.5280.com/2021/09/unlocking-the-secrets-of-mesa-verde-national-park/

Yeah, the animals that gave Oren the secret of metal working were part of the african wildlife (or at least looked as such). I just put said "african wildlife" to avoid needing to name every species present there.

African wildlife???

Awww, look at that adorable little boy (or girl?) licking his lips at the idea of eating sapiens creatures. Also the part about the wolves getting the ravens only later on is a neat way to highlight how everyone in the setting is evolving/hanging and not only the Hollow people: traps for cougars, ravens for wolves, meal work for African wildlife... It's far more interesting, realistic and deep than just having one group of visionaries inventing all by themselves. ...WAIT A- is that mother wolf the one going to investigate the forge's smoke? Crap, non we won't be able to cheer if they kill her to protect the secret.

Reseen Dalls

I see, thanks for the explaination !

In real life, ravens will lead wolves (or human hunters) to animals so they can eat the potential scraps. I think the ravens were leading the wolves to the lone bison, but Quannaq was smart enough to associate ravens flocking with wolves. In Oren's Forge, I don't think ravens/wolves have an alliance exactly, just ravens being smart enough to use other animals to take down large prey for them. Give it a few hundred years and maybe some wolves would start domesticating ravens (or turkey vultures) and use them along the same lines humans use birds for falconry-- the difference being the wolves need surveillance (corvids/vultures), where-as humans needed killing power (hawks/falcons/eagles.)

Teagan Gavet

That's a pretty interesting lore development, implying that there's an actual alliance between wolves and ravens, rather than the former tactically observing the later. Unless I'm misunderstanding what's being said. So the flock in the first few pages of the original comics was in fact purposely trying to lead the pack to Qanaq and Rask ?
