OEW Page 5

Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf is a short comic (~12 pages) set between the events of the last volume and before the next.

Next One-Eyed Wolf page will be out Monday, Sept 6th!

In other news, happy to say I made a lot of progress on the script for the second volume of the main storyline this month. It will pick up right about where page 199 leaves off. The script is in a place where I feel confident to start working on actual comic pages (that is to say, I expect no major rewrites at this point, yay.)

My aim is still to start posting the main storyline again in early November. Hope you guys like your martens with a side of wolves! ;]

Next volume will deal with more familial relationships centered around the wolves, but I do want to point out... the Hollow is more a last resort for animals displaced or desperate. If you're in a fully functioning family unit surviving just fine-- there's no reason you'd ever seek out a place like the Hollow. By design, it's composed of a lot of broken family units. I am looking forward to exploring the 'found family' vibe that comes from that, though. Sprig was also an Abert's squirrel, which I imagine are rare in the world of Oren's Forge. (They're uncommon in the real world, existing mostly in pockets of the Rockies and face a lot of pressure from other squirrels.) There's red squirrels and fox squirrels in the background, but Sprig was meant to be a singular, stand out, very pragmatic guy. I imagine his origin story to be pretty grim-- he's like Egg and Rask, one of a kind.

Personally I'd like to see them all in familial or romantic situations. Until now all characters we're only linked to each other by their affiliation to the Hollow except for Rask and his two (now dead) relatives. It's a bit of a waste to not have the possibility to see how the characters behave in more intimate situations. And it's weird too, as in such primitive times finding a mate and having children as soon as possible is a matter of survival. (I found it really weird that Sprig had no shown relatives in the Hollow, be it family or partner.)

Could that be a "war games" reference perhaps? "The only winning move is not to -- nope you must play"

I want to counter this, but from reading the "How to Become a Superhero Guide 101" it's true. ;_; Page 194 states this very clearly.

This is a necessary step to becoming a superhero!

Will we see in the future how Rask will experience rut?

;_; Oh no. Oooh nooo. He's gonna lose his mom, isn't he?
