New Name for Blackfoot
Added 2021-05-07 20:00:04 +0000 UTC(I may have told you all this, but it's likely been years so apologies if you've heard it before!)
Way, way back in 2014-2015 when I was working on the first chunk of Oren's Forge, the story was going in a very different direction. Bears were going to be the main antagonists, and the wolves were only in the first 10 pages to establish the stakes of the story (things want to kill and eat you, etc.)
The wolves originally never had speaking parts, nor were they intended to come back into the story. Their names, for my layout purposes, were A, B, C and D, which became Alpha, Blackfoot, Cree and Delta in my notes. The latter three were stand-in names chosen from Indigenous tribes native to the Black Hills region or thereabouts. Now that Blackfoot is going to play a larger role, however, I think he needs a name that's more suited to the story, the world of Oren's Forge, and without the cultural reference. I mean, he doesn't even have black feet!
Anyway, so here's a poll with a few ideas, any of which I'd be happy with. You're welcome to comment something too if the inspiration strikes. Wolf nomenclature is going to be active-sounding nouns or adjectives. He's kind of a jerk and wolves' names are less earned or given as they are just whatever nickname sticks through adolescence.

- Cree is going to become Scree, perhaps 'Cree for short in some cases.
- "Delta" however, never got a name and he'll need one for the next chapter. Later this month I'll be posting his re-design/glow-up and taking a name poll for him.

Yeah, Snarlfang is good. I tried to come up with a good "jerk name" for him, but I didn't come up with a good one. I was trying to work the word "burl" into it somehow.

2021-05-07 21:41:50 +0000 UTCIf you're going for the "nickname that stuck" angle, you might consider "Blackmane." It's a distinctive feature on him too, the kind that might earn a nickname, because as far as I can tell none of the other wolves have their mane color spread all the way up their head and down their snout. "Blackcloak" would probably work even better, except I don't think the wolves have the concept of cloaks...

2021-05-07 20:22:26 +0000 UTCI like Seral, but I don't think anyone will know what it means. Blacktail is good, as well, but only the tip is black, so shouldnt it be Blacktip?
