Oren’s Forge VOL 1 - Kickstarter Tiers!

The first volume/chapter of the story is finished and (I hope) it’s time to put it into print!

Here’s a quick breakdown of the KickStarter Tiers/basic info!

Kickstarter will launch Tuesday April 27th at 3PM MST

You can go to the pre-launch page to be notified when it launches, but I will also post here!

Here’s the different Reward Tiers:

There will also be an “Early Bird” tier for the physical book+digital copy, at $25(+shipping) and limited to 100 people.

The KickStarter will end May 27th

BOOK ITSELF: I have priced it out to be printed at American comic standard size (~6.8” x 10.8”), with 85lb matte interior pages and a 14pt cover.

The only stretch goal will be to upgrade ALL copies of the book to hardcover. After that, money will be put toward printing the book a bit larger, perhaps a heavier paper stock for the interior, etc.

TIMELINE: I plan to spend a couple weeks on the layout/updating some older panels (if the project funds before it ends, I’ll get started on that right away so I can get it to the printer sooner.) From there, it’s a few weeks for a proof, around six weeks for production once the proof is approved, then 4-6 weeks to be shipped to me (estimated). I have an October delivery set in the KickStarter on the outside chance that everything goes wrong, but if everything goes as planned, it should be in your hands sooner!

And, heads up here… I’m sorry shipping will be high for folks overseas/outside the US. The book is likely to weigh a little bit more than 2LBS/0.9KG, which is the cutoff from “okay” international shipping to “ugh why.” (This is a learning experience on my part— if I ever try to Kickstart another book, I’ll keep it under 80 pages to alleviate the shipping cost. Plus side though: Oren’s Forge will be a meaty volume, versatile enough to read and enjoy, or crush cans.)

Thank you guys!

Yeah I figured as much, I tend to be wary as heck about buying from the USA for very much this reason. I'll see if my american friends will be interested though.

@CPat; oof. This was not really helpful, friend. This wasn't someone's post-it doodles, this was a thoroughly refined project, learn some etiquette because this can be super damaging to artists who pour their heart and soul into a thing just to have someone (who probably has no idea what the process is like) suddenly come in like "okay but lets make it 20% cooler" :|

Sky Almighty

Are you really telling an artist how to change their work? That seems pretty presumptuous to me. Besides, I think Egg's backstory is fine as is, and changing colors of speech bubbles would really throw off much of the design. It's already clear what the speech bubbles mean.

LukeOnTheBrightSide

Looking forward to owning this.

Thanks! I'm sorry about the shipping-- I wish it wasn't so high, but no matter how I fiddle with the books' weight (without making the pages tissue thin, that is), or different packing supplies, it comes out to 2lbs/0.09+, and between $30-40 in shipping overseas. :[

Teagan Gavet

I'm in!... once my pay comes in of course. (No matter the shipping cost.)

Reseen Dalls

As much as I really want to support this, the shipping is too much for me I'm afraid. :< I really hope this takes off though!

BritishRabbit

It'll be $10 in the US!

You finding it in a library is about the coolest thing and made my day, hah! The French edition was from some years ago, when only the first part of the comic was finished. For publishing, typically an author sells language rights rather than the property itself. Paquet (the French publisher) approached me and bought the French rights for a period of years (and might for the rest, not sure yet. 2020 threw a lot into the air.) There's never been an English language print edition of Oren's Forge. I struggled for a while trying to find an agent in the US for the English rights, and got a lot of positive responses along the lines of "Wow, this is great, but I don't know how I could sell this in America." The US industry is hyper focused on specific properties or YA/pre-school, unlike the EU, where the market is more all-ages all-genre. Felt like I was spinning my wheels a bit in the US, and I'd really like to see it in print. So, figured we'd go about it this way. :]

I found this comic in my local library in Montreal Quebec (Canada), in French no less. Was something done differently last time?

Tirga

how much will the shipping for the US?

Koda

great news, very excited for this

Koda

For any of the physical tiers, if it's headed to the EU, shipping will be $32USD.

Teagan Gavet

Much excite! Again

Sad to hear about the shipping costs... But I guess it was to be expected... At least I have the Euro/Dollar conversion in my favor. Any idea what will the shipping costs for the signed edition be? Just to know in advance. Thanks!
