Oren's Forge PG 176

Oren's Forge PG 176

I'm not saying that she'd stop protecting the hollow, she'd just do it as sort of a rogue vigilante, akin to The Punisher or Red Hood, so she can kill predators that threaten the hollow without being bound by Oren's Rules. Not sure if Teagan will actually go that route, but could set up many possibilities, and it would be cool to have Hemlock be the Oren's Forge version of Batman.

Maximus Coyotox

That seems less likely to me, she was a warrior to protect her new family because she failed to save her original family. Now she has nothing...

Oh she knows they're not brainless killing machines, she even offered to Let Rask run away, if she was completely convinced they were all the same then she'd have just stabbed him right there and nobody would have questioned her story. This is my repeated point, but i'll keep on saying it. Hemlock doesn't think nobody can change, she just thinks that it just takes one mistake to have a hunter kill many or all of them and that risk isn't worth being compassionate to the hunters, who prior to all the talking and such were happy to murder and eat them. She is not acting this way out of a cartoony evil attitude, but a well earned fear and trauma that makes her not trust hunters. I think if Teagan just wanted us to hate hemlock it would have been trivial to change some details to make her just a stupid bigot who hates 'foreigners'. I don't want to sound like the Hemlock cheerleader squad but obviously she's a divisive character who is driving the plot forward in an internal way. But I think that it's realistic that different people in a society would have a different view on how much risk they want to take on when they're literally in a world where people eat each other for food. We don't hear the story about all the others and what they suffered, how they feel about hunters. Maybe Oren is ignoring their concerns or they're too timid to speak up. For the record i'm rooting for Rask too, I really wanted Hemlock to be able to accept him, but I think he pushed things too far when he wanted to 'bring more' hunters. There is a trust issue that has to be built over time, Sadly Egg is a bit out there mentally from being brutalized by Hemlock so she isn't the best ambassador. And yes I haven't forgotten about egg, what Hemlock did to her is tragic and I think that is indicative of how this whole world is a giant crap sandwich, everyone is just hurting other people to survive, we only really get a glimpse of a few peoples stories, everyone else is just food or some monster.. anyway sorry for the long reply. This is a complicated story I think.

See this is what I keep saying about the writing. Hemlock isn't evil, she's is very cynical. Oren wants to change the world for the better, Hemlock thinks this is naïvety. Notice she is throwing down her weapon, defeated and given up maybe, not not the Hitlarian monster some people make Hemlock out to be. Now I could be eating my words when next week she stabs Oren in the back and enacts a purge... but I'm betting this isn't the case. I love the scars on her back, visible to the world without her pelt...

Indeed, though it wouldn't make much sense. As me and British pointed out, she seems to be releasing the spear as she had been holding onto it in the last couple of pages, hence the angle of the spear on this page. It wouldn't make any sense for her to release it just to grab it back again.

Bruno Schafer

She "knows how it ends"? Interesting, is it possible this isn't her first experience of trying to cohabit with a predator? Are we about to learn the story of the pelt she wears? After all we know only part of her backstory: she hasn't told yet how she learned of the Hollow nor her travel to reach it. Also a meaningful background event: the meek Cotton looks disapproving of Hemlock's answer. Wonder if it his because he sees it as disrespect to Oren or out of a dawning sympathy for Rask.

Reseen Dalls

Now I'm just speculating, but she Could grab it back... And Rask would be in a position to defend Oren. Unlikely? But that'd be some good high-stakes conflict for sure.

CattleCastle

I doubt it. Given that she seemed to have been holding onto the spear for the last couple of pages, even though Oren held the top of it, it seems she is releasing it, though I am not sure what this means.

Bruno Schafer

I seriously doubt it, she let go of the spear.

BritishRabbit

Stone Hollow becomes Redwall

Maximus Coyotox

Very unlikely, she's got 3 witnesses, so it won't be a smart move on her end to do so.

Maximus Coyotox

It will end when you will find yourself STILL alone… I say… you install stakes all around the stone hollow with a watchtower. (Well… it's not discreet… but at least the message is clear isn't it?)

Balou3155

Is Hemlock gonna exile herself? It seems like a possibility, she lives away from stone hollow, hunting down predators as a sort of rogue vigilante assassin.

Maximus Coyotox

It looks like they stepped behind Oren; you can see their spear over his shoulder.

TJ Hedges

I don't think she knows how this ends. Just refuses to admit hunters are not just brainless killing machines. I wonder if she is gonna grab the spear and kill oren

Brooklyn Forge

oOOOOH man, Hemlock... Next few pages are gonna be tough to read I bet but this is so compelling. I'm worried she's about to do something very drastic.
