Ireland
Added 2024-10-06 22:42:18 +0000 UTCMany of you know I'm headed to Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) in November. As I'm planning my trip, I'd love to hear from you, my patrons. What are the things you'd like to see me make videos about? Sites, stories, people, etc. Let me know!

Don't forget there's more to Ireland than "war".

2024-10-27 02:48:20 +0000 UTCHi Chris, whatever you do when in Ireland do not refer to the Great Famine as the Potato Famine. The Potato Famine is not a term used in Ireland. Many in fact find it offencive. Historically it was called An Gorta Mór. Meaning The Great Hunger. Today it's referred to as either "The Famine" or "The Great Famine".

2024-10-22 21:28:33 +0000 UTCHello Chris, I'm a 56 year old resident of Belfast and have been a fan of your channels for over a year now. I originally started watching your main channel due to my interest in American presidents, but over the past year or so have binge-watched most of your videos. I find your videos both informative and entertaining and also humorous. I'm delighted that you're finally coming to visit our 'wee country' and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time here. I hope I'll be able to meet up with you at some point, depending on my work commitments. I actually work for the Historic Environment Division (HED) which is the government department responsible for maintaining 187 historic monuments and sites in Northern Ireland. Although I am not writing to you in an official capacity, but rather as just a fan of your channels. I'm sure you've already received numerous suggestions for places to visit, but I hope you won't mind if I add a few of my own. Carrickfergus Castle - A wonderful Norman castle just a few miles outside Belfast. It was also the site of a naval duel during the American War of Independence involving the Royal Navy and a US ship captained by John Paul Jones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrickfergus_Castle Dunluce Castle - A beautiful medieval castle on the north Antrim coast, perched on the edge of a cliff, with truly stunning views. It featured in A Game of Thrones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunluce_Castle Enniskillen Castle - A wonderfully preserved castle and barracks in the south-west of the province which houses the Inniskillings Museum for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, with plenty of memorabilia, uniforms and weapons from World War 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enniskillen_Castle Stormont - The home of the Northern Ireland Assembly (the Northern Irish Parliament). Arguably the most impressive of all the four home nation parliamentary buildings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliament_Buildings_(Northern_Ireland) There are literally hundreds of places I could recommend, but I've tried to list a few that others may not have mentioned but which also may appeal to you. I hope you have a pleasant trip and I look forward to seeing your videos from here. Kind regards, Jim McMillan

2024-10-22 19:23:19 +0000 UTCI would like to hear about how Winston Churchill felt about the Irish! I had an Aunt who was from Ireland, she had a poor opinion of the man!

2024-10-07 11:12:33 +0000 UTCHello! I can recommend: - Kilmainham Gaol, the prison in Dublin, where 1916 Easter rising revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed. Being inside a cell was a eerie experience - Hill of Tara in the County Meath, an ancient ceremonial and burial site

2024-10-07 10:41:00 +0000 UTCSo, I know you are doing dublin, and belfast, however, I would definitely agree with some of the other posts: - Visiting Newgrange - The Battle of the Boyne visitor centre Both of these are in the Royal county of Meath I mentioned Donegal to you on stream, however, if you are interested in traditional caps etc HannaHats in donegal town are a cool place for visitors to see, and pick up a trad cap. Derry is also a gorgeous city, and the Walls, and indeed the history, are evident all around you as you walk around. There also Enniskillen Castle, and the town itself, which holds a strategic position on the Erne, and was also home to the famous Inniskilling Dragoons South of Dublin isnt really my territory, so I have nothing to add about that.

2024-10-07 10:15:02 +0000 UTCOne last thing is that I have heard Spike Island is a great place to visit. From the sounds of it, I think you would really enjoy it.

2024-10-07 04:29:27 +0000 UTC1. I would be interested in seeing you do something on the IRA and the Troubles. 2. I think the Belfast Blitz is an underrepresented and unknown event due to the London Blitz. 3. Historic figures like Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde would be interesting topics to see where and how they grew up. 4. I would love to see some personal stories connected to the potato famine.

2024-10-06 23:18:52 +0000 UTCHighly recommend the Ulster American Folk Park outside of Omagh (one of my ancestral hometowns). It’s a huge open air museum that chronicles the Irish immigrant story. The museum is split between “Old World” and “New World” sections with tons of original artifacts

2024-10-06 23:03:52 +0000 UTCAs an Irishman I would say for the republic kilmainham Gaol, newgrange, and for the north of Ireland battle of the boyne site and walls of Derry 🙏

2024-10-06 22:57:06 +0000 UTCIf I have to say, a must would be Trim castle (where the filmed some of Braveheart) and also, please go see newgrange in Co. Meath. It's an unesco world heritage site. That is definitely a must see if you can!

2024-10-06 22:55:26 +0000 UTCI've been to ireland twice! Such a beautiful place. In Dublin, there's Trinity College where the long room is and the book of Kells. Go to St. Patrick and Christ Church (in Christ church Strongbow is buried there). Blarney castle and the estates are nice. If you go to the west, the cliffs of Moher (there are boats that will take you out to the Aran Islands near there and then you can see the cliffs from the sea, bottom up) and Keem bay is pretty. Ross castle is nice too for history. Dunguaire castle is a place where they hold dinners and a show and we had so much fun there!

2024-10-06 22:53:01 +0000 UTCI'm planning to do a video on the troubles in Belfast for sure.

2024-10-06 22:52:30 +0000 UTCOriginally that was the plan, but I can't come the week I originally intended, so the reason to visit Scotland (to see football) isn't there, since I'll be there during the international break.

2024-10-06 22:52:09 +0000 UTCI know very little Irish History but I'd visit Newgrange for sure.

2024-10-06 22:49:11 +0000 UTCOkay I'm jealous. Ireland is on my bucket list. The history of the Troubles has always been something I have wanted to look into and more into why the country split. I don't know what to tell you to focus on. There's so many things I would want to see and do there.
