january update

happy 2024! i hope the new year is doing you well. here's what i'll be working on this month!

also as a note for marron... i'm no longer planning on releasing android. google play has been such a huge headache lately and it's not worth it. i'm worried i'll run into issues trying to get it to release, or worse, be able to release but not be able to update, which is something i've been running into lately... i want to make sure my games have all the bug fixes / updates available equally on all platforms, & right now google play is making that impossible for me so i don't want to release new games there until they fix their update process.)

A HERO AND A GARDEN is also (as shown in banner) currently 20% off on steam for the capitalism and economy fest which i didn't even know was a thing, so pick it up if you haven't! → https://store.steampowered.com/app/1914740/A_HERO_AND_A_GARDEN/

douZINE#2 bundle is also closing in less than 24 hours so check it out on itch while you can → https://itch.io/b/1905/zine-douzine-2

prior to this post i also updated all my game steam pages to say that they support xbox as well as playstation controllers because i confirmed that renpy games work with bluetooth/usb ps controllers!!! so now if you play on steam on a ps controller it will no longer give you a warning telling you it's not supported. (i don't know how many people play on steam with ps controllers vs xb controllers vs just keyboard but now i'm curious!)

anyway, wishing us all a good beginning of the year! ✨

Ah, I see how it'd be easier to maintain on one 'base'. Well, hope it works out :)

since i'm using sameboy for the emulator i shouuuld be able to get it working - just a little finicky! (the emulator supports win/linux/mac - it actually uses cocoa for the mac base and sdl for win/linux, but i don't want to have one version of the game have a different 'base' so i'm trying to build them all on the sdl base)

While I would definitely appreciate a native Linux version, I could *probably* get the Windows executable working through Wine. I say "probably" because I've never tried a gb game before but Wine is pretty compatible with games these days. Either way, I really appreciate you going to the trouble to get it to work!

i get that much...! many people found your game on google play from what i could know... kind of sad... but since the compromise has been settled...? i think apk on itch is more convenient!

the thing is i really like releasing on google play because it reaches so many more people than itch & even steam! but if the platform is blocking me from updating it makes it very hard to support it...

npckc

same to you!! ✨

thank you! i am definitely considering this for the future. in the past since i didn't want to manage both aab (google play's weird format) & apk versions i didn't do this but if i can't update google play... 🤷‍♂️

Hi npckc! If Google Play is causing you too much of a headache, you can always release the Android versions as apk files through itch.io - the website is rather well-organised for .apk file downloads. It can even show a little Android logo next to them. But please do whatever works best for you. :)
