Introducing Fishing

When working on this mechanic, I thought to myself, “Surely these are easy for me to implement, right? "Well, it actually took me a whole week to finish, plus losing more brain cells. I wanted the mechanics to be in depth while making the minigame as simple as I could, and I am glad I was able to finish it within a week. I will be separating the explanation for the in-depth mechanics and the surface mechanics.

Surface mechanic (the minigame itself)

So it’s very straight-forward. You wait for the fish to take the bait. When the fish takes the bait, the MC will be alerted, and you only have seconds to respond, or it will fail. The MC will automatically reel in the fish, as you can see the blue bar on the right slowly rising up. Sometimes the fish will fight back, and the MC will start pulling. When the quicktime shows up above, you will only have seconds, and you need to press the space bar when the hook touches the green bar. Once the blue bar on the right is full, you have finally caught the fish. Congrats!

In-depth mechanic (how the system works)

Fish

Once you catch a fish, you earn money depending on its tier and how rare it is. Also, the fish you caught will immediately get unlocked from the Achievements menu in the fish tab, and you will also see how much you caught. All fish have different chances to appear and have different prices.

Fish Tiers

Fish are grouped into tiers. Each tier has its own difficulty, like how hard it is for the blue bar to increase when the MC is reeling and how fast the quicktime moves. For a guaranteed fish to get into that tier, you need to use baits.

Baits

There are different baits for the player to use. Each bait has a specific tier of fish it will attract. Using that bait will increase the odds of catching all the fish in that tier. Additionally, baits below the tier can still catch above-tier fish. For example, if you are using no bait to catch a fish, there is still a chance for you to catch fish above the current tier.

I am confident that the core system is finished, and all that is left is to polish it and add content to it. The plan was to make this a new dating spot, but I don’t think I can finish it this month.
