April 2025 Status Report
Added 2025-04-30 17:04:53 +0000 UTCKinda feels weird to do another status report when the last one part way into the month mostly covered everything. Mostly.
But after power was back on it was into finishing up and testing the Fashionable Succubus encounter. Then I got food poisoning from food I ordered in for a bit which once again, slowed things down. Then once I was better it was back to the Fashion succubus stuff, however I eventually hit a kind of snag with the combat dialogue in that trimming it down to fit would really jank out the skills, and as overflowing the text box has also occurred with past fights as well. Notably the labyrinth most likely for people. But developing the livewire fight also ran into a similar issue that took time to resolve given skill text included: monster dialogue, the skill line, crit notif, weak/res notif, status/weak/res/immune notif, the damage dealt, and recoil damage. Which lead to monster attack skill word count being very constrained, and even unpredictable to trim down properly.
Hence me doing the damage display rehaul to move the information elsewhere, which update could have been out sooner if I didn't, but I felt like it was important to do for the quality of the fight I was working on and the future sanity of development. It is hopefully compact, polished, and informative enough to do its job properly.
If people have feedback or suggestions to the UI change I am very open to hearing them given it's a fairly substantial shift.
Then with the update launched it was time to fix any bugs that cropped up, which there unfortunately was, but once those were substantially bonked the bugfix patch was go the following week. Then after some monitoring for more and feedback, and responding to feedback, it was time to take a bit of a rest.
Next update will be v27 when it's ready and will be focused on further development of the capital, I still need to figure out which things I'm going to put into said update so it's properly layered and won't feel weird, and I should also likely add a notif somewhere in game that the capital isn't finished yet to avoid confusion I've seen pop up on occasion.
The whole power outage thing and needing to focus on the update also threw off my schedule for artist messaging, so I'll also need to get that checked in on again. Though I'll have a teaser posted Friday for something I have.
Additionally I do think reports like this will be something I will keep free moving forward so people can stay easier informed on the games development. But things like art teasers will still be supporters only.

Talk about kicking while you're down ππ But I'm glad you're getting back on your feet despite all the setbacks, and still following through with your signature "best dev in town" quality (of both communications and updates!)
