September Update: Drag & Drop Initiative

Hello DMs,

I've been busy this month! I've made progress on various projects. Here's what's new:

Improved Initiative now supports rearranging combat initiative via drag-and-drop. This long-requested feature was surprisingly tough to implement!

Paragon Campaign Dashboard has a few bugfixes and quality-of-life improvements. Collaboration features are coming along but not ready for prime-time yet, as well as some form of Account Sync.

Longwave is now part of a larger collection of online party games called rocketcrab.com. This is a collaborative project that involves several other developers.

I've spent a huge amount of time playing Factorio during the last couple of months, to stave off the general gloom and lack of motivation. The upshot is that I've written a few Factorio mods that I'll likely publish in the future- let me know if this interests you at all.

Thanks for your support. Stay safe, take care of each other, and happy DMing!

September Update: Drag & Drop Initiative

Comments

I never realised there is a place for spell slots available on the bottom and it just blew my mind when I saw it lol.

Thanks, Evan. It would almost be nice to simply eliminate the entire rolling of initiative as an option, and just be able to rearrange the order manually and hit start round to start with the combatant at the top of the list. I know this is pretty counter to what II is designed to actually do, so realize that popcorn initiative is kind of an outlier situation for your tool. If we were playing in-person and not online, it would be less of an issue.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the heads up- sounds like a bug in a corner case. I'll take a look and see if I can repro the bug

I am about to start a campaign I want to run with Active/Popcorn initiative, so the drag and drop initiative is great. But every time I hit "start encounter" it rolls initiative for all combatants, and once the round starts, I can't override the first combatant. Even if I drag another combatatant to the top, it still treats the one who was at the top of the initiative rolls as the first combatant. Is there a way to simply "re-assign" active combatant? Or assign a new "first combatant" before stepping through turns? Obviously, I could just override initiative before hitting the check mark, but I think I will be re-doing that alot and messing up my round counter. Thoughts?

Andrew Gover

Whoa! That's an amazing update! This is a huge quality of life update. Really appreciate these updates!

So, I thought I posted this last night, but apparently it never went through. So, here goes again. I never imagined I would find myself liking Improved Initiative more than the combat tracker on DnDBeyond, but I have to say it goes above and beyond! (pun intended). I especially love the concentration checks added, as they are so often forgotten! I was curious, however, if there were any plans on adding checks for other status checks like frightened, poisoned, etc. at the beginning/end of each round until passed. This would make Epic Initiative TRULY Epic, in my opinion! I can't wait to share this with my players next game night! Thank you for all the work you've put into this amazing program and all the work you continue to do!

Neither are ready for prime time yet, I'll stick em up on github later though

One mod gives you a button to create a quick logistic/trash order for your held item. The other mod outputs live factory data to a CSV file so you can visualize it in other software, but it's tricky to make that work correctly with how the game handles save files.

You rock dude! Improved initiative has changed how I and many of my DM friends run games, both at the table and digitally. Drag and drop is a huge feature, and I'm super stoked. Just wanted you to know your work is appreciated :)

Finn Lynch

You're actually the best!!! this drag and drop feature is so exciting!

I'd definitely be interested in hearing what mods you made, just for curiosity! I just finished up my last bout of playing so I doubt I'd use them for a year or so when I get the itch again ;)

Allie Laabs

You have no idea how happy that drag and drop makes me.
