A bit late, but yeah I would watch it. I'd even buy it for Anime importet dvd prices. Is that a thing other people do? Idk, but yeah... it sounds like exactly the thing I would watch every time I need a good cry.

call the series "tears of the king" in reference to the final confrontation and definitely nothing else

You guys might like Astielle (https://kittyunpretty.com/astielle/), a fantasy novel that's clearly based on Breath of the Wild but has its own characters, lore, and politics. Also complicated reincarnation relationships and some EXTREMELY kinky sex, though the latter's well-marked to be skippable if you want. The dynamics between the Moonlight Monster, Starlight Hero and Sunlight Prince are INCREDIBLY compelling and well-written and GOD I want to see it animated so badly you have NO IDEA

I loved the discussion about what a Legend of Zelda animated series would look like, lots of great drama. However, as a lore enthusiast I am honor bound to clarify two big things.
One, Hylia's reincarnation as a mortal already happened at the beginning of the Zelda timeline (in Skyward Sword) and it is permanent. Hylia became a girl named Zelda who lived and died in the Skyward Sword era, so Hylia herself is no more and it wouldn't make sense to directly involve Her in the plot. But every Princess Zelda is a blood descendant of that original reincarnation, and that's why Zelda always has the sacred sealing powers.
And two, the reincarnation cycle is already explained in Skyward Sword as Demise casting a curse with his dying breath, in which he guarantees that he will return reincarnated again and again. Meanwhile, Link's reincarnation and Zelda's hereditary line is an infinitely looping contingency plan that Hylia set up ahead of time with her vast powers of foresight. What I love about this is that Skyward Sword characterizes the whole situation as an endless war fought between two great generals. And like any war, no one's hands are totally clean.
So for the plot, if Ganondorf's pact of power comes from a "good" source it would have to be a servant of Hylia, such as a sacred dragon or a guardian light spirit. But on top of that, we could have Zelda also be very close to Ganondorf as a fellow royal and political ally. Then when everything goes wrong Link and Zelda both have to carry the burden of killing Ganondorf (as they often do in the games), which for Link is more personal but for Zelda carries huge political implications because, you know, the princess of a neighboring country just killed the king of the Gerudo. Yay political drama!
PS - The Mafia Cats animation you mentioned is called Lackadaisy, and yes Nick you absolutely need to watch it, it's on youtube!

if you’re looking for an alternative real world place to set the script might i suggest the celtic takeover of ireland from the picts? you could have the old gods on the Tuatha Dé Dannin and the rest of the fey court be the lineage of Gannon(who you could base off of Cú Chulainn) and have Link be celtic. still have the three goddess with Erin, Badvha, and the third sister for the triple imagry in the future. Plus epona is literally named after the irish horse goddess so it was definitly an inspiration at least in OoT? whatever you wind up doing I absolutely love it!!!
