If you want to try something from the Star Trek catalog again, First Contact is a fun movie and I don't think you need any other Star Trek knowledge to pick up what's going on and enjoy it. Definitely a shorter time commitment than a series, at least. (I've also really been enjoying the Google sheet of books you have shared here, thank you so much for that!)

None of the characters in particular, but just the whole... being punished for being different thing. The funny thing is that it's the Evangelical Christians who are being punished for being different. See how they like it lol.

And while I don't disagree with the fact that LOTR is rather conservative (even as a devout Tolkien stan, having a quenya tattoo and all) I was readying myself for more a bombshell in the line of "actually the Turner Diaries are very gay". Apparently not all of us queers watch and read alt-righty things as an act of intellectual masochism!
