You asked. I answered. Hopefully my rambling answers make some semblance of sense lol.

Podreon Episode 18 - You Ask The Questions

I recommend the following non-English gay movies: (1) Free Fall (German) about two cops falling in love (with Max Riemelt who was also in Before the Fall) (2) And then we danced (Georgian) about two dancers falling in love. It's about traditional Georgian dance and there is also some great singing and the cinematography was stunning! (3) Operation Hyacinth (Polish) about the Polish police and the crime of being gay. This one is also a love story and it's on Netflix. I think many people didn't give that one a chance because it looks like a very dark thriller. The movie deals with murder, black mail, prostitution and the threat of police violence but at heart it's a very believable love story.

Hey hope you still see this 🤔 there is a admittedly short book that is about the immediate aftermath of The Gentelmen’s Guide to vice and virtue (It’s called the Gentelmen’s guide to getting lucky) maybe you’d like to check that out tho really it’s more of a booklet

Hi, I've been unwell so I'm foggy on what TV it was since I've watched so much lately. Film wise I think it was Tove, The Favourite and maybe Battle of the Sexes. Basically anything where someone is rich enough to be blatantly lesbian and not give a crap. In retrospect this may be a repressed European thing since I don't remember seeing it much in American cinema.

Loved the podcast!! Well, I highly suggest three Thai BLs I believe you can't miss, Not Me and The Eclipse (highly political with an anti-capitalist message) and Bad Buddy (if you enjoyed Semantic Error you will love this). Also since you enjoy camp you should definitely watch Secret Crush on You, it's pure camp fun (they're all available legally on youtube). Another interesting one (from and industry point of view) is the Miracle of Teddy Bear. I sure hope you reach the subscribers soon haha because I find that an analysis about the industry/genre is really missing from the youtubers that deal with media. And as you said it's really curious how Hollywood simply refuses to acknowledge the huge marketing potencial of the genre. But also I think a lot of times western views on BL are really biased and don't go beyond repeating the same tired old cliches with heavy doses of orientalism. It's hard to speak about the industry as a monolith without taking into account the different countries and contexts where they were made. There are many Asian academics (or asian based at least) studying BL and I think it's key to look into them to be able to have an informed view that goes beyond the obvious. Language is a barrier but I think Thomas Baudinette is doing a remarkable job with texts in English.
