The Queerness of Modern Horror Cinema

Good morning everyone! Check out the new video looking at the evolution of queer rep in horror cinema in the new millennium. It'll be going live for everyone o YouTube this weekend.

OH! And there's also a podcast episode out today, but that's going public on YouTube since it's a special episode where I talk about the box office situation with the movie "Bros". Next week's podcast will be Patron only again. :-)

I have been on vacation and you have been very prolific. Another well done video about a subjects I am not a fan of horror movies and Halloween. I will spare you the details.

Michael Adkins

An important correction: ‘It’s Raining Men’ was performed by the iconic duo The Weather Girls not The Pointer Sisters trio.

Another excellent video James! I somehow completely missed the queer reading of Hereditary, so I learned something today!

Oh god that's gonna get my gay card taken away 😭

Minor detail, but "It's Raining Men" was by The Weather Girls, not The Pointer Sisters.

Bobby Joe Christensen

Having heard you mention fright night, nightbreed, and the horror queers podcast, i am vibrating in my seat from sheer queer horror euphoria

I can't thank you enough for acknowledging trans masculine people and how we appear subtextually in horror. There's plenty of transphobia aimed at us in film, but because it doesn't look like what trans feminine people go through, it goes unrecognized, leading to the popular perception that we're not targeted, and so don't need resources or defense.

This was a really good video. I always love your October specials.

A (heavily) gay coded horror movie I rarely seen anyone acknowledge is Monster in the Closet 1986.

Thanks for putting a podcast episode on YouTube 🙇🏻‍♂️

Sorry there was a credit card snafu at the beginning of the month. It's taken care of now. Can't wait to watch this new video. BTW, did you know that Shudder just started a series called Queer for Fear? Bryan Fuller developed this docuseries about the history of the queer community in the horror and thriller genres. The first episode came out last week.

Keith Gayler

Wow, I'm glad I got up early enough to watch this before going to work today. Just wow. <3

Haha no problem. I probably posted it here too fast and YouTube was still processing something.

Of course NOW there's sound...maybe I should've just been patient. Thanks for the quick response.
