Question time!

Hello hello! I have a quick question I wanted to ask. If you could get me to cover any one topic of your choice, what would it be? Media, history, anything goes. (I’m asking for a specific reason, I haven’t run out of ideas haha)

Hi James! Loved your Pink Triangles video and would love to see your further explorations of queer history. Thanks for all you do.

not sure if you’re still taking answers to this question but i’d love to see some mythology videos!

I'm going to be incredibly self serving and ask for more Vampire Chronicles analysis, if there's anything there for you to mine after its mention in the Hannibal video. Though I wouldn't blame you if you saved it for when the TV show is finally getting a release date for that sweet sweet algorithm bump.

The Wizard Agrimony

I loved the making it big and pink triangles documentaries. I understand they aren't the most profitable, but there's not that many other people working on similar stuff and I'd learn more in that vein if you can afford to make those types of vids. Suggestions: queer history in Canada (what is the influence of part of the country being francophone?), I've found stuff about how lesbian separatism shapes attitudes towards bi and trans women, as well as transmascs within the lesbian-ish community, but how did attitudes around gender and attraction, inclusion and exclusion, in the gay community come about?, and of course like many in the comments above I also love your media analysis stuff but I don't have particular topics to suggest there.

Would love something about queerness in the music industry (e.g. recent reactions to Lil Nas X)

I'd love to hear you talk about some queer horror podcasts, there's so many of them and honestly I think its my favorite medium for horror. The Magnus Archives is a really popular one but my personal favorites are Mabel and Hello From the Hallowoods :)

More anime and manga please lol

Whitney Weltz

It's super self indulgent but I'd be interested in hearing you talk about Percy Jackson or Steven universe. Childhood hyper fixations and all that.

So, if you want something specific and very real world, there was a study done recently (2017) wherein the authors concluded that lesbianism in women only exists because men find it a turn on. No, really. And they know this because they asked many heterosexual couples about why lesbians and bisexuals exist. And all the straights said it must be to serve straight people’s tastes. … Which I guess translated to gay men and bisexual men must exist because straight women find that a turn on. … And that’s the only reason for both. … Soooo… maybe a video (or few videos) about how the medical and scientific community have misrepresented the LGBTQ+ community? Or how bigoted incorrectly use science/medicine to try to oppress the LGBTQ+ community? (For the record, I am a scientist, and I fully believe both science and medicine have gotten much better, especially recently, but that past is certainly still in some people’s minds.) Someone (gay guy I sat next to on a plane and chatted with for 2 hours about really odd things during the flight while the conservative on the other side tried his best to lean away from us) said that the best way to think about BL is to realize it is by women and for women and totally about women despite only men being involved. It is the same as lesbian porn/focused movies from the 80s: by men, for men, and somehow totally about men, despite having only women as the main characters. Both are fetishistic to a point (the better ones of both can have lots of plot and actual stories and explore complex themes). And they can be enjoyed by the groups they are fetishizing, but there almost always is some degree of fetishizing. Recognizing that and the fact that this is not media by the groups they portray—and perhaps supporting media made by those groups as well—is a step in the right direction. But there’s so much there for James to dive into that it would make a good series of videos.

You touched on Love, Simon in your last video, which is a film directed by a gay man but based on a book by a bi woman, and spoke about Anne Rice's novels, which prominently feature queer men. I couldn't find a statistic for this, but apparently, most books that focus on romance between two men are written by women (queer or straight) especially in YA. I'm curious if you have thoughts on why that is and how it impacts the landscape of queer literature.

I was very impressed and moved by your pink triangle video. You did an absolutely fantastic job with it. So I'd love to see more history content from you.

I absolutely loved your Painter of the Night video. I’m pretty new to BL and I didn’t realize just how bad people would react to us readers of that genre. There’s a huge discussion on tiktok about how women shouldn’t read BL because it fetishizes gay men. I would very much like to know your opinion on this topic.

Asexuality and it's non existent representation in mainstream media. And possibly it's position in the queer community and the problem with opinions that want to exclude it. Just anything about ace and aro stuff, I just feel invisible sometimes...

I may be in the minority here but I feel you and Nick hit on something potentially intriguing when talking about Wiccan & Hulkling in Power Couple, and your discussions on Wandavision in A Thousand Tiny Tantrums. It'd be fascinating to see you explore the link between LGBT+ and the occult/supernatural, and why queer people specifically (like me, a gay male practicing witch) are so drawn to it. I mean, sure, there's probably a pithy single-sentence answer like "it lets us indulge in power fantasies" or "it's a culture that embraces being the outsider" but I feel like there's a lot more to be delved into and I think you two are the ones to do it.

Tidbit: there's a podcast called Bad Gays specifically about evil and complicated queers in history, dunno where to learn about the not-evil ones though

I love your media commentary. Especially in regards to so-called "problematic" content like killing/stalking and more recently painter of the night and hannibal. I love how you treat them seriously and examine the themes, and precisely why people like them and /how/ they are enjoyed. I'd be interested in your ideas about another manwha you touched on before the warehouse, specifically. But broadly I enjoy your analysis on various media. :)

I love the history you cover! I never hear enough about queer history!

Actual jeff bezos

I love whatever you decide to cover but if i got to choose a topic, DC’s recent run of announcements characters as bisexual, with the context and thoughts of why DC comics fandom, and fans of the Bat-family in particular have seen so many of these characters as some shade of queer for so long.

Oberyn McCreless

I love your analyses of media, and I'd be curious to see if there's a way to hear about the things you love. Maybe videos including studies of healthy relationships in fiction, or must watch media for young LGBTQ kids.

I’d love more content about LGBTQ rulers and royalty all throughout history.

Jacob Inman

You really opened a door with the Killing Stalking video but I’d honestly love a video on Japanese boy bands. The tension between fan service / not being allowed any kind of public relationship / allegations of abuse since these boys enter an agency in high school, all of this interacting with over-arching Japanese cultural understandings of inner/outer lives and individuals vs society……… But honestly anything ;)

Definitely history, but maybe histories of media topics. I like that. Appreciate you

Sara Deemon

Villainizing bisexuality in western media or japanese culture and it's influence on portraying lgbt themes. Have a lovely day!XO
