Have you ever heard of Deadly-Ripper (Rasga-Mortalha)? According to Brazilian mythology, it is a bird of dead omen. Legend has it that it lands on top of your house and makes a frightening sound. When the night passes, someone in the house doesn't wakes up anymore.
Some versions say that it is a witch who transforms into a bird and, to prevent the tragedy, you have to leave her tobacco and/or drink on the house's window.
The vast majority of people see the Barn Owl/Catholic Owl/Church Owl/Suindara Owl (Tyto Furcata) as this bird because its sound is really scary. but we know that this is just a legend.
By the way: Suindara means "the one who doesn't eat" in Tupi Language.
