A Massive ol' Update.
Added 2019-10-16 16:23:22 +0000 UTCSo, what have I been doing this past 30 days-ish?
Well, it's been an extremely busy one. I managed to finish the Game of Thrones Episode 5 video right before the special episode of EFAP took place. The video did wonderfully and I think it's one of my best in terms of production, the animation portions really gave some of the ways I was constructing arguments a bit more edge, or that's what I thought regardless and the visuals were as crisp as I can muster.
It covered pretty much every problem I had with the production of that nightmare episode and I did everything I could to package it in an entertaining format.
The EFAP episode I am referencing was number 50. The one where me and Rags streamed for 24 hours... or at least, that was the expected finish line, these things can often go for longer than expected. You can find it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1nPWzos5Vo
Either way, during the time with the GoT video, I had built a backlog of recordings and content ready for editing smaller videos in relation to the EFAP channel "Mooler" this includes the Minis, Movies, EU and episodes in general.
I had ignored them for the primary video.
So, I committed to getting everything in that backlog finished up before continuing with a large project and I imagine that's how it might work out in future...or not...more on that in a sec.
For the sake of transparency, let's talk about everything I have done in this past month for video stuff shall we, first would be the main EFAP videos I suppose.
We got episodes 51 through 57 completed, all with new topics and some new guests, discussing anything from whether a "massive" is Jamaican to whether Joker is a racist film.
A full playlist for EFAP can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21tx9U6M70g&list=PL6A9eYEQJWqt_D5BUjrmKrOhWZE3aB9CL
EFAP is going stronger than I could have foreseen and there seems to be a very strong community behind it. The intention is to keep as close to one episode per week as we can while adding supplementary content as it progresses.
For example; EFAP Minis:
The Star Wars D23 Special Look, The Lady and the Tramp, Terminator: Dark Fate, Sonic, IT 2, Toy Story 4 and I guess you could include the Rambo rant.
These are all essentially vehicle videos to discuss a topic that's relevant but that we don't intend to cover more deeply at the time. They can take a few hours to a day to edit but they represent the smallest stuff that was put out, a link for them is right here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb6_tkakKQs&list=PL6A9eYEQJWqvstbiOllSxSE8YnX4g3J9V&index=11
Next up is the "EU" or Expanded Universe of EFAP, meaning videos that have some great moments with the cast of EFAP that don't take place on the MauLer/Mooler channels. This includes some streams we are invited to, debates that have fallen away or been deleted and perhaps streams playing games that have led to some hilarious moments.
There isn't a playlist for this set yet because there's only two but three were created during this month and they are set to release soon, as some extra content, including the two debates that I had with Wolf about The Last Jedi and critical thinking on art.
They took some time to edit down and refurbish from the originals but they function with what I would call improved pacing, enjoy them soon folks.
The newest example of the EU can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vesQymeO5fU
Next up, we have EFAP movies, an endeavour that was much more than first realised. The short version is that we have recorded episodes for 5 movies, all are now edited and they represent the bulk of the time in the last month for work.
Not only do you need to cut everything up for entertainment purposes, but there are many edits for comedy and pacing that are not typically present in other content and they take time to get right.
Once everything is finished, they end up being rendered and are as long as an hour and a half in some cases. then comes the copyright bots and this is something that is hard to translate but I will do my best.
YouTube is a twat with this stuff.
When I upload a video that has copyrighted material in it, I will receive a message about that pertaining to one specific timestamp of evil doing on my part, so I re-edit and re-upload. This is a frustrating process as it cripples my PC until finished and it takes a decent chunk of time.
But recently, they seem to have altered their system to let me know there is an issue between 2 and 6 days after uploading. This changed on whether the video is live as well.
Which means that I continue working but I get told randomly that my video is now down, some of you may be aware that the DOOM EFAP Movies went up twice, only to go back down twice.
That is currently being worked on, as well as the other 4, me and a friend are trying to keep them live on a different channel until they are swatted and then we re-edit and re-upload, once they stay up for about 2 weeks, they will clearly be ready for release but none of the 5 have survived that long yet.
This means that they are completed works but we have to wait until YouTube allows them to come out and play. Until then, here is the playlist for the current set of EFAP movies - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRI5TlOPizU&list=PL6A9eYEQJWqv7wGTnlBaX6NeZgMNrJ6-p
Next is the EFAP Minis for TV Shows.
We have recorded 1 for Torchwood and 2 for Batwoman, all 3 are rather hilarious and represent a microcosm of the editing required for EFAP Movies. The Torchwood one was requested by Jay Exci and will be released once his video regarding Doctor Who is completed but the other two are already out.
You can find episode 2 of Batwoman being looked at here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al0mb2c1eow
Which leads me to the last but not least:
"MauLer and Passion of the Nerd Audio Commentary - The Fly (1986)"
Passion of the Nerd and I recently finished an audio commentary for The Fly (1986)
it was a lot of fun and it functions the same way that the previous two commentaries have, I promised I would make more of these and I haven't been able to with everything else that's happening but as of today, I finished a corrected render of that audio commentary video, it will go live on October 31st and should hopefully represent more to come in that format.
Here's a link to the latest one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM-SWBNgEKA
It took some time to edit, as do all of these things but that leads us to a sort of summary.
I have completed 21 videos since releasing the video on Game of Thrones, videos that range from full audio commentaries to podcasts, to reactions to analysis videos supercut for entertainment and some bonuses here and there.
EFAP/Mooler related content is incredibly important to me and the fans that have developed for it.
It's a chance to have a casual setting in which to discuss all kinds of interests as opposed to hyper focusing, which is also a lot of fun but a different experience. The videos I have made over the past month have been sitting in my queue for ages and it felt good to get it all done and have plenty left to deliver as I work on something bigger now.
But obviously, none of the work described is work toward a new bigger analysis video and that it upsetting for many people. What I can say is that looking forward, I want to spend the ten or so days I have free before Terminator to re-draft my TFA part 3 script.
I can prep it for recording once I am done with a potential Terminator video, which is very likely.
My "expectation" not "promise" is to get another video out on TFA and Dark Fate before the end of this year with Mooler pushing out content alongside it.
And so you ask yourself,
But where is Outlast 2's review?
What about Alien Isolation?
What about Dark Souls 1 and 3?
What about Avengers: Endgame?
What about the rest of the MCU?
What about The Force Awakens Part 3 and more?
What about Star Wars as a saga?
What about Joker: An Unbridled Praise?
What about Season 8 Episode 6 of Game of Thrones?
What about the show as a whole?
What about Buffy? Angel? Hill House?
What about Shadow of the Colossus?
What about Metroid?
I have to stress that I rarely spend a day not doing something toward work, be it editing/rendering/uploading/researching/writing etc.
I have now created so many different videos that are focused on an episode or a film in a series or what have you that the audience have natural expectations for what comes next and they get VERY frustrated when they do not see what they want.
Upon releasing the Episode 5 rage, I had several comments saying "You took too long" that video was partially a nightmare to construct, every day was spent on production. And of course, many of you will say "Don't listen to those comments"
And you are right, but I want you to know that i'm aware of how you guys are feeling and I am pushing on, even if it seems I am not. I have no sense of burnout or a lazy attitude, that will not infect these two channels, at the very least, not for now.
But this stuff, as always, takes time.
I have found two candidates for editing specific videos, one of them edited one of the videos mentioned above. Once a few examples have been created, I would like to give them more work, compensated of course and if the other works out as well. Things can pick up.
Hiring editors is the natural step toward making more content on a smaller time scale, but the entire process is very difficult/time consuming when trying to get right.
Thank you all for supporting the channel as much as you have, more videos are on the way and once there is a significant amount of information to share, I shall post here again.
See you in the future o/ <3

2021-02-28 13:40:55 +0000 UTCHi Mauler would you be able to make this a pdf of your script or something and accessible? Ideally the outlast one you did but this would be great also really just as a framework?

2020-12-08 18:45:24 +0000 UTCI wouldn't want anyone to continue their patronage, if they felt they weren't supporting something worthwhile. As I said in the last update, if I have something for you all to know that's important and changes the flow of content in any way, then I will outline it here. The reality is that i'm working, everyday. Patreon is a huge reason that's possible and instead of making an update that shows a screenshot of the timeline and explains that I am working, I am simply going to keep working. TFA Part 3 is the current project.

2020-05-01 21:43:35 +0000 UTCHey, I know you're busy but I think more updates here would be nice' your last update was over half a year ago and while I don't want you to rush your videos I think that a monthly update is needed to keep in touch with your patrons.

2020-01-17 05:51:31 +0000 UTCMauler, keep doing what you're doing. It brings light to the dredge that is the current content that is created by these overpaid people. I only hope that one day you are given the opportunity to spearhead productions of your own so that quality media can be produced by competent creators, like you, who care about the story for the people they are creating it for. You show it with these videos. I can only imagine what a production would look like, produced by you.
2019-12-03 07:50:12 +0000 UTCIdk man, your TFA critique videos have 10 times the views of your average EFAP and you have 5 times the subscribers on the Mauler channel has you do on the Mooler channel. I think you are missing a pretty big opportunity by devoting so much time to EFAP.
2019-11-14 19:08:56 +0000 UTCDont worry MauLer, i understand your problems. I started to read my friends novel to break it down long man style to make sure that its objectively good and not retarded. And i just gotta admit, it's long. It takes time. The other day he asked my opinion if he should keep a small but important scene at the begining of his book. So i gave him some pros and cons that the scene in particuliar has and gave exemples as well, some from other good franchises, some from real life and ultimately gave the final judgement that he ended up finding my critique excellent and being thankful for it. Oh yeah btw, the scene was 2 &1/4 pages long with medium sized font on pdf and it took me a bit more than an hour to do all that. So yeah, what a coincidence that you tell us how long it takes, while i've started doing the same and have started to understand some of the peeves you face. Take your time Long Man, you'll learn and get better at doing your stuff so you'll save a bit of time. I love your content, few youtubers have add an impact on me like you and the Toxic brood and i will forever be thankful for that. The other day i rewatched Ghost in the Shell(1995) and i've enjoyed it way more than the first time i saw it thanks to you. Such an amazing movie, have you seen it?

2019-10-19 07:21:50 +0000 UTCI want to say thank you for existing! The work you're doing is great, I'm happy that your channel has grown so much, and that you're happy and successful. Your content, and your way of analyzing inspires me to improve the writing in my own stories, and I just want to one day explain and articulate topics as well as you do or close to it, because holy fuck that's a strong ass talent that you possess. Going through some financial stuff right now, but I'm hoping to support you on Patreon in the future at least a little bit because y e s.

2019-10-19 01:25:13 +0000 UTCA praise for Joker? I'd have thought you'd tear that boring, sad, sack of shit to pieces.

2019-10-18 21:22:38 +0000 UTCLoving it. Do what you want at your pace. Not everyone is ever going to understand just how annoying editing or dealing with YouTube if they haven't done either themselves. You won't get win if you don't play in the game. Oh, You get love for it. You gate hate for it. You get nothing if you wait for it. We can wait for it. Love EFAP btw. Laughs abound.
2019-10-17 13:45:47 +0000 UTCOn the subject of an editor, I really empathize with the need to keep the videos your own coherent vision without having someone else come in and put things together in a way that you didn't intend. The editing process can essentially turn into another rewrite, as you figure out what does and doesn't work in execution, so having someone else do one hundred percent of the work may cause a decrease in quality, even if the content is coming out faster. With all that said, perhaps there is a middle ground that can be reached. An editor wouldn't need to put together the entire video, but instead, create a canvas for your to then fine-tune and manipulate to your heart's desire. As it stands, you're currently doing everything, both creative and technical, which is obviously very time consuming, as you essentially have to reinvent the wheel every time a new video is made. Perhaps the role of an editor in your case would not be to create the finished video, but instead, collect the footage you need and create an assembly cut of sorts. They could edit the audio, find the clips and put them together in a way that would avoid the copyright bot, and then send the files over to you to fine-tune as you pleased. In other words, they would create the skeleton of the video, while you would pile meat onto said bones. It would take out the bulk of the work without sacrificing your control over the final product. Just something to consider. :)
2019-10-17 06:10:51 +0000 UTCThank you for the update. Your content is absolutely top notch and always worth waiting for. Some of the best laughs I’ve had recently have come from EFAP and the minis!

2019-10-16 17:47:10 +0000 UTCMr. Let, may I make a suggestion? It's quite clear that their is a lot on your and your viewer's wish list for videos to make and between that and the huge popularity of EFAP and related content there just isn't enough time to get videos made before something else comes along that people want to pick your brain on or that you want to do a video on. GoT I'm looking at you. So how about this. Since the visuals are largely incidental, though the effort for appropriate reactions and that animation in GoT S8Ep5 is not lost on me, I always love them... Why not just write up a blog for "lesser" projects? At the end of the day, we're all just curious what you think about this, that, or the other thing and text on a screen is pretty much peak efficiency. Then down the road you can always adopt it into a video if you want.
