Man, I remember seeing these at the LA Auto Show years ago!

Josh Bernstein

Hopefully! It depends on how long the cell charging and rest of the work takes

Aging Wheels

Will you have time to squeeze in a review of this thing? I remember seeing them at the Detroit auto show when I was like 8 years old and thinking they were such an interesting concept and I’ve always wanted to learn more.

And by the way, your ryobi mower battery project motivated me to build a LFP battery for my RM480e. Super fun project with great results! 105aH is way overkill for a half acre yard, but it’s nice getting nearly 4 mows per charge. I’m still waiting for a zero turn version of the mower to show up on FB marketplace with dead batteries since it’s a drop in replacement.

I realize this, but I don't have the time available to make proper top balancing happen. I'm going to experiment with faster ways of charging the cells (on the spare modules) tomorrow and then go from there

Aging Wheels

I realize you probably won’t want to hear this considering how long it takes to charge those modules with your bench power supplies. But with LFP, unless you’re top balancing you’re going to have a hard time getting the SoC to match between the modules. LFP usually has a very flat voltage/SoC curve. At 3.2v you should be relatively close to the top end at least.

Hey Robert, just something on the escape, from what I can tell all American escapes came with drum breaks on the rear and they changed to the second gen sometimes around 2006. In Australia, we got the same body style (more or less, they made some changes like different lights and revamping the interior) but all of the mechanics in them stayed the same pretty much up until 2012 However, Australian delivered ford escapes (and Mazda tributes) made after 2006 but in the same first gen body style had disk breaks in the rear. If you would like I can get my hands on all the parts you would need to convert the rear breaks ln the electric escape to disk breaks, and send them over to you. Let me know if that’s something your interested in Also, the reason I know so much about ford escapes/mazda tributes it’s because they are my favourite cars (second to early 2000s BMWs) and I have owned four of them. Sorry for the long comment haha -Will, a guy from upside down land.

They're ten amps. Someone suggested charging them in series which I don't want to do because safety, but I didn't think about parallel. I could charge up at least a couple cell groups together

Aging Wheels

How many amps are your power supplies? Can you charge the cells in parallel to speed things up?

The american auto market is so different than the european... This vehicle almost certainly wouldnt exist here in Europe...

Nuno Campos

Wow, you're such a nice guy :o

Misha Dellinger

I had the same question. The difference is four wheel drive. The truck the traction motor is directly behind the generator and mates to the transfer case. There's no transfer case in the van, so the traction motor be sit much farther back allowing room for the battery pack between the traction motor and the generator

Aging Wheels

Does the driveshaft only go through the truck battery and not the van battery? Surprising they are different configurations.

Nicky Ivy

I've also always wanted one, but this experience has changed my mind a bit. I'll have to wait and see how it drives once the batteries are balanced because it was real bad before...

Aging Wheels

Probably because it's a 2015 Silverado 😁

Aging Wheels

For not being a Silverado, it sure looks a lot like a 2014/2015 Silverado

You Mr. Dunn, just made my Sunday a million times better. I'm still broke af, trying to sell my computer to pay for cat vet bills, but, watching your video, will improve my mood muchly.

Allan Clipperton-Boyer

I have always wanted one of the vtrux. They’re a volt but bigger and I love that.
