Ripping Apart My 3 Dead EV Battery Packs

I finally dug into the packs in the two spare Codas, and what a surprise that was. I was expecting half the packs to be dead or the voltage readings to be all over the place or some such nonsense like that. Instead, it's like I pulled the packs from daily driven cars that were charged yesterday. Except for the Wheego. Its pack is still dead.

If Tavarish followed that idea, you wouldn't have the Yugo. Don't worry about future owners this one time. Do what you want to do. You have posted videos about the Coda since a year ago. If someone was interested, they would have contacted you already. I live in CA and see a Coda regularly charging. They are rare, but you don't have the last one.

I vote for getting the Wheego back on the road, because that will be much more interesting than waiting to see if someday, somebody somewhere with a Coda needs a battery pack. Given how few Codas actually were made (over a decade ago), you are quite likely one of the last people who actually has one - much less one that still operates. Granted, the same thing can be said about the Wheego. As you're a content producer, I don't see any value for you in trying to preserve parts for a hypothetical someone else. Bring back the Wheego, and upgrade the mower!

Don't open up the other Coda battery yet, you should have plenty of cells already. Wiring up a Wheego using the Coda cells will end up with a 36S 12P pack, which uses only 432 out of the 624 cells and leaves you with 192 cells, enough to create a 48V 180Ah pack for your mower - assuming you can fit that many into both of them.

Are you concerned about the cooling of the more dense Coda pack compared to the standard pack if you swich them out?

BrandEver

Why have a pack just lying around hoping someone can use it someday when you can use it now. Bring the wheego back to life. And your coda kept braking down so I can’t imagine there’s a bunch of owners out there anyway. Also is it a good idea to put those batteries in the mower which would be drained so far?

Evan Hartmann

His sponsor pieces are the only ones I watch. They are absolute works of art and whatever he's getting paid for them isn't nearly enough, lol.

I really want to see the lawnmower battery swap. I can’t imagine very many coda owners would be too upset, they’d look for a newer EV

Joshua Watkin

You're so totally overthinking it. You have a drivable Coda and a parts Coda. Use the spare Coda battery to make the Wheego go again. Yes, it will be hard, but would it be any fun if it were easy?

Bruce the Moose

Ya know, I'm okay with that

Aging Wheels

sounds like you'll be busy for the rest of your life with battery swap projects! Looking forward to the next update :)

Hey Robert, Don't know if you know this but the channel snazzy labs brought a Coda a few months ago, maybe worth rechaching out to offer parts or something? Great video, I once found a rats nest behind my tumble dryer where my landlord was to lazy to seal the vent properly, 2nd worst day of my life, so digusting. You have my sympathies.

Joseph Morris

The sponsor skit is amazing. Just it.
