Latest On Smoked
Added 2024-08-22 16:00:15 +0000 UTCAs I mentioned in a couple of comments, Smoked is done and currently being edited. For those interested, it clocks in at around 600 pages. (In short, I wasn’t exaggerating when I previously stated that I kept adding stuff every time I read through it.) That makes it the longest book I’ve written thus far - and that’s with me not including a lot of other plot-related stuff that popped into my brain.
Needless to say, the ultimate length of the book was a shock even to me. Although I’m not one of those people who can say, "My next book will be a 60,000 word novel," in my head, I had originally envisioned the story maybe being around 250 pages. But there were a lot of moving parts, a lot of things to unpack, and the storyline itself - in my own opinion - was engrossing enough that telling it in the right way simply required expansion. Plus, as I always say in terms of my writing, the story tells itself. In other words, I don’t decide how long the story is; the story does.
In terms of a release date, I’m hoping for the last week of August. (Yes, some time in the next 9 days.) But, while that probably doesn’t require everything to go perfectly between now and then, my goal is to be hitting on all cylinders.
