Another Update on Smoked

My goal at this point was to be able to say that I was finished with Smoked…that the writing was done and it was in the hands of my editor. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the “good two weeks” to work on it that I’d been hoping for. It’s no one’s fault – a couple of things just happened that pushed the timetable back a bit.

By way of example, we bought a couple of smart TVs a few years ago. These were units that came with legs that attached to the TVs so that they could stand. Not long ago, a leg on one of those televisions snapped, causing the television to fall and break. Thankfully my son, who was nearby when it happened, wasn’t injured.

This week, a leg on another of those televisions (same manufacturer and model) snapped, causing the TV to lean forward at a dangerous angle. We were able to deal with it before it fell and hurt someone, but I then had to sit down and write a detailed message to the manufacturer explaining what had happened, and that their product was clearly defective. I’ll give the manufacturer credit for giving me a prompt response, but they said they couldn’t elevate the matter until I provided additional information, including a copy of my receipt.

To be clear, we bought these televisions about six years ago. Ergo, requesting for a receipt after that period of time is a big ask. Thankfully, however, I’m a bit of a packrat. In short, I still have the receipt. That being the case, I sent the manufacturer a copy. (I would love to have seen the look on their face when they got it.)

Now I’m simply waiting to hear back from them, but the point is that this is one of several things that have kept me from devoting the amount of time to Smoked that I had hoped. However, we are closer to the finish line, and should cross it soon.
