Alpha Prime Pyramid Insignia
Added 2021-09-26 22:29:41 +0000 UTCI think I previously mentioned that the pyramid insignia on Alpha Prime's costume was a mistake, but I don't think I ever offered much of an explanation.
The truth of the matter is that when I came up with the black-and-gold color scheme for the Alpha League uniforms, I had envisioned Alpha Prime in something akin to a black outfit with a gold cape. However, I wanted more gold in the costume, so my intent was to have a golden "V" descending from the neckline - something like this:

(Just FYI: In my head I saw it shaped more like an equilateral triangle rather than isoceles, and also as just one solid color). My recollection is that my cover artist asked for more detail about the "V" and I ended up describing it as a pyramid, although the intent was to have it appear on the uniform as an inverted pyramid. Anyway, I don't think I explained that part very well and ultimately we ended up with this:

Frankly speaking, I was so happy with the final product that I don't think I even notice the symbol on Alpha Prime's chest initially. (I don't believe it fully registered with me until later, when someone asked about it.) Basically, I gave the cover my stamp of approval and when I finally did take note of the insignia, I didn't feel comfortable asking my cover artist to make a change. Plus, I kind of liked it - even though I knew it would inevitably draw comparisons to other characters (which it has). That said, I'm blessed in that, on the whole, readers didn't seem to care, it wasn't important to the story, and there have actually been far fewer comparisons that one might imagine. In short, I guess you can say it all worked out.
