Basically, after completing the first Warden book, I had a couple of ideas for the cover.
That said, I probably didn't explain my vision very well, because my cover artist asked me to whip up something conveying what I wanted.
Truth be told, I had two concepts: (1) A ward, which was going to be a symbolic representation of the wards mentioned in the series, and (2) the Wendigo. Needless to say, the Wendigo won out, but here's what my attempt at it looked like:

Obviously the lesson here is "Stay in your lane." I'm clearly not an artist, so I'll stick to writing books. Thankfully, before I sent it, my cover guy made it clear that the drawing didn't have to be good - he just needed an idea of what I wanted. In the end, he took my concept and ultimately turned it into this:

It goes without saying that I was happy with the end result. And as you might guess, my cover artist never asked me to draw anything again.
