Speed-Bumps in the Writing Road
Added 2021-03-30 02:11:51 +0000 UTCI think I've mentioned before that I have the next few Kid Sensation books pretty much mapped out in my head. That said, I've been trying to find a way to tell stories about Future Jim (when he's older) without giving too much away. Fortunately, I think I've found a creative way to do that. I'm still working out the bugs, but I'll give more details soon. The real problem is where to fit that story into the queue.
At the moment, I've got KS #10 (Working title: Expiation), KS #11 (Generation), and KS #12 (Culmination). I really want to tell this Future Jim story, but I can't seem to squeeze it in. Well, I actually could fit it into the lineup, but I really have it set in my head that the twelfth book in the series is going to be an inflection point. I could always make that Book 13, but that number doesn't resonate as well for some reason.
I could also just drop one of the other titles (most likely KS #11) and insert it further down the road (maybe make it #13), but based on the way the stories are unfolding in my head, I'd prefer not to. The final option is to simply make one of the other books a short story instead of a full-length novel, but that doesn't have a lot of appeal to me either.
Anyway, it's obviously better to have too many writing ideas than too few, so this is a good problem to have. I'll probably just have to get over my mental hang-up and simply bump Culmination to Book 13. That seems to be the easiest course of action. However, I'll keep noodling on it and see if something else occurs to me.
