Update on Conjuration (Kid Sensation #9)
Added 2020-10-16 23:50:28 +0000 UTCI'm sure I'm sounding like a broken record at this point, but I'm almost done with Conjuration (Kid Sensation #9). Basically, as I read over the manuscript, I keep finding things that I want to change. That said, I'm anticipating getting it done this weekend. (And as soon as it's finished, I'll announce it here first.)
Needless to say, by rewriting I am disobeying one of Heinlein's Rules for Writers. For those who don't know, the great Sci-Fi writer Robert Heinlein had five writing rules:
- You must write.
- You must finish what you write.
- You must refrain from rewriting, except to editorial order.
- You must put the work on the market.
- You must keep the work on the market until it is sold.
In essence, I've been disobeying Rule #3. The truth is that sometimes when I'm editing, I'll see something that could [allegedly] be phrased better, or realize a character is saying/doing something that is, well, out of character, and so on. My mind, of course, screams at me to fix it.
Anyway, there is a silver lining with respect to my continuous tweaking of the story: I've poached from myself and now got a very good idea for Kid Sensation #11. I think I've already discussed Book 10 previously, and I've also had the idea for Book 12 for a while. Book 11 was a little bit of a black hole, with various storylines occasionally coming to the fore, but now I've got the one I think I want to run with.
Basically, I plan to team Jim up with the Pelagic Prince. It will probably be like mixing oil and water, but I think it will be fun. Hopefully readers will like it.
