Ignotus and Isolation

Lately, I've been so intensely focused on Isolation (Kid Sensation #8) that I practically forgot that Ignotus (Fringe Worlds #3) was being released and is now available:

Normally, I publish every book as soon as possible, with the pattern being as follows:

          Get finished manuscript to editor

          Have cover artist create cover

Get manuscript back from editor and review

          Get manuscript to formatting guy

Get formatted file back and publish

That didn't happen with Ignotus.  Basically, I had planned to set the book for pre-order, so I had my cover guy start working earlier than usual. However, it soon came to light that my editor was booked up and wouldn't get to the manuscript for a while, thereby pushing any possible release date out a couple of months. That being the case, when I finished the book in January, I set up the pre-order for a mid-April release.  Frankly speaking, there was little for me to do after that because the cover had already been created and I was simply waiting on the manuscript to come back.  After receiving and reviewing it (and getting the formatting done), I loaded it all onto Amazon, which had to be completed several days in advance of the pre-order release date. Following that, there was nothing to do but wait.  In fact, most of the pre-order period for Ignotus consisted of me waiting, with a couple of frenzied bursts of activity here and there.

Isolation, on the other hand, I recently finished and put in the hands of my editor. I also started working with my cover guy around the time I finished writing it. I anticipate getting the manuscript back from my editor within a week and will review asap. My formatting guy is on standby and will get cranking on the manuscript as soon as he receives it.   Once it comes back from him (hopefully within a couple of days), I will publish. Basically, there's been on-going activity which has kept (and keeps) Isolation top-of-mind.

In retrospect, the 3-month pre-order period was obviously too long. I stayed connected to the publishing/release process, but I didn't have that same sense of urgency and immediacy that's present when I'm trying to release as soon as possible.  Bearing everything in mind, I'll probably take another swing at pre-orders, but the time period will be much less - no more than 30 days.
