I like to think of Steven Moffat sitting at his desk, coming up with this episode. 'Hmm. How about Alien meets Inception meets The Thing meets The Santa Clause meets...Doctor Who. Why don't we combine them all, and then some? Oh, and let's also throw in a heart-wrenching scene or two about loss and grief. And some dancing. And, oh, why not? Let's have the Doctor call the only other character with a Scottish accent "sexy one"? YES, BY JOVE, I'VE DONE IT.'
Parfait.
Also, sublime music - especially at the end. 'Don't even argue.' Beautiful friends. Kinda toxic together, but beautiful nevertheless. As all the best friendships are (maybe).

Wonderful reaction. This is one of my favourite Christmas Specials. It has possibly the maddest combination of ideas ever, but it really works. There are some really funny moments and excellent banter between the Doctor and Santa. Also: "There's a horror movie called Alien? ..... There are also some beautiful heart-warming moments, like the scenes with Danny, and the scenes between Doctor and Clara at the end. This episode always makes me feel better. I just love it!

DREAM IN A DREAM IN A DREAM IN A DREAMCEPTION !!! 🗣️🗣️ ft Nick Frost one of only four British actors in existence so you knew he’d be on this show eventually (especially since Simon Pegg was in series 1) - LOVED your reaction to this and to the very sudden moments of pain w the truth about Danny/Gallifrey, Clara’s dream, how even the version of Danny she dreamt was HIM enough to tell her to save herself, “Clara Oswald you’ll never look any different to me”, and Twelve’s biggest smile ever on his “I’M RIDING A SLEIGH” 🫶🏻😭😭😭 such a solid episode and the next one’s an absolute banger too!! cant wait for you to get through series 9…🤭
