Next video plans, and why I think the JOI market could collapse (Weeklyish update 14th September)

Hihi, or as I'm in Japan now...はいはい

So the video is out and I hope you're all enjoying it as much as I expect. Was genuinely an insane amount of work to get it out there and yeah. Feels good to be done and taking a small break.

Things is, I was actually looking ahead for once in my life, and I've noticed a small problem.

Next video

So, I said Houshou Marine next right.  It's planned to be a reasonably sizable video. Definitely not another 90 minutes, but not a video I'm getting out in two weeks. And I say two weeks, because next month is October and welll, at the end of that there's an important day. Halloween is even more important this time because I've put off helltaker a whole year to release it for this halloween.

So erm, there isn't a really great solution here, is there? On the one hand there's the people who paid to get the Marine roles, and the other is a video that is reallyyyy overdue.

So in short, idk what I'm actually doing here. Leaning on giving halloween priority as the extra time guarantees it actually releases on Halloween....For the first time since the first halloween vid.

And speaking of the very first halloween video

Fuck PH

They removed the first succ video a week back and I'm still trying to find out why. Support is terrible as you'd expect. Since then I tried to upload the trailer for the BB doors vid, got removed. I edited Shuten out the trailer and reuploaded...got removed again. So I have no clue anymore.

PH will be getting the minimum attention possible from me. Uploading releases and that's it. If any of them get to stay up, that's a bonus.

But this creates a problem, and maybe I'm being dramatic but...

This whole JOI scene could collapse in the not too distant future

There's two problems here.

Firstly, the migration from PH to database is cool. But it does have a downside. Less views on PH, means less visibility on searches, which means less people getting introduced to this entire genre. I stumbled onto it because I just randomly searched for Junko, and a JOI was one of the top results. If this happens less often, there's both less creators getting into the market and less viewers entering the ecosystem to support them. What does the JOI market look like now if I never clicked that video?

The second problem is people are taking the piss with patreon. Now I get the irony of writing this on patreon where my newest video is currently only viewable to patrons. But I think my system is pretty fair. Typically you're getting about 80% of the content for free and I structure my videos so that it doesn't ruin the design of the video. Hell, I even go out my way to make sure there's an in video reason of why content is locked.

Other people...don't do that. I've seen new accounts with one free vid and like 4 patreon only vids. I've seen vids where it's roulette, but the patreon locked results are still rollable with just a message saying "lol go to patreon". It's insane.

And it's going to push viewers out the genre. And combined with less visibility on PH, so less new people, then it seems a disaster waiting to happen.

The sad reality is that exclusives bring in so much money it's impossible to stop. I had about three years making videos, thought my income was at its limit...then did an exclusive and more than doubled what I was on before. So I'm not arguing everybody should stop with exclusive content. Just don't fuck over the vast majority who aren't paying.

(Ps, not really calling out Soxxie here. He has a huge library of free to view vids, so actually has something to offer the average viewer.)
