The Godzilla franchise has always been a bit of a blind spot for me, and it's one people have been asking me to cover for years. So for this I would just buy the whole Criterion Godzilla box set and go deep, covering the whole history of the series, up through Shin Godzilla and the American versions.
The cameo video I imagine being kind of like the PG-13 F-bomb video from a few years ago - breaking down a short, simple cinematic device, discussing the functions it serves and how it can be used well. And I have strict rules about what really qualifies as a cameo. Tom Cruise in Goldmember? That counts. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder? Not a cameo! If they appear in more than one scene it's just a supporting role.

2023-01-23 16:46:24 +0000 UTCShin Godzilla is incredible. A masterful combination of horror and comedy and it modernized Godzilla in such a timely way. In a way it's sad it never got sequels, but then again, every back-to-the-serious-roots Godzilla reboot eventually serialized into silliness so it's nice that the black comedy about Fukushima never suffered that same fate.
