Vote in TTToTTT Day 4 - MOST NEW YORK MOVIE vs. GORE VERBINSKI
Added 2023-01-22 16:01:01 +0000 UTC
And now, the other day 4 match-up! This one is equally tough! We have...
What is the Most "New York" Movie Ever? (submitted by StrugglingPunk)
vs.
Gore Verbinski (submitted by Mario Freitas and Lauren Damon)
As someone who has now lived in NYC for 11 years, I am now officially qualified to discuss what makes a "New York" movie. I imagine this would be somewhat like the 80s movies video (except not quite as long), defining a set of categories to evaluate the "New Yorkiness" of various New York movies. It's probably the most cinematic city in the world, so there's a lot to discuss there!
But it has some tough competition from ol' Gore Verbinski, one of the true gonzo blockbuster auteurs of the 21st century! This is the guy who made the shockingly great American remake of The Ring! Who won an Oscar for the insane animated western Rango! Who made the fascinating disaster The Lone Ranger! Who made A Cure for Wellness, maybe the single grossest, most unpleasant major studio release of the past decade! And, oh yeah, who also made THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN TRILOGY! It's an incredible, varied filmography and there is so much to dig into there.
And don't forget to vote in today's other match-up: Muppet Cinema vs. Patrick's DCEU / Batman Beyond
Comments
It was his directorial debut (or at least, his feature-length debut), and he's been everywhere since. I agree that his Bioshock film would've been wild, sad it didn't happen.
2023-01-22 19:30:39 +0000 UTCOMG that’s a Verbinski movie? 🤯 Wow, gotta give him credit, that filmography is all over the place…(still wish he’d been able to make that Bioshock adaptation he was attached to for a while. Might not have been great but could’ve been WILD.)

2023-01-22 18:09:25 +0000 UTCThis was my submission so I am gonna defend that there’s SO MUCH more interesting to talk about in that franchise than Depp

2023-01-22 17:17:08 +0000 UTCDo people really want to see Patrick talk about 5 movies' worth of J*hnny D*pp and Arm*e H*mmer?
2023-01-22 16:53:10 +0000 UTCAgain, I think you could do justice to both topics, although I have no objection to just letting the Verbinski topic be the undisputed winner here. Hell, I'd be happy with a deep dive just into Rango... one of the most amazing animated movies ever. And, there is absolutely no reason in the world why the first Pirates movie should have been any good at all, and yet... wow. Yeah, dude has earned the Patrick (H) Willlems treatment.

2023-01-22 16:49:23 +0000 UTCI have been campaigning for a gore video for years now
2023-01-22 16:18:07 +0000 UTCJustice for The Weather Man!

2023-01-22 16:14:50 +0000 UTCI have to vote for Gore Verbinski simply because my friend who absolutely loves the classic comedy "Mouse Hunt" would be so mad if it doesn't get extensive coverage.
2023-01-22 16:14:12 +0000 UTCTough call, but seeing as how I've been lobbying for a Gore Verbinski video on Twitter (and also submitted it here), that's gotta be it for me.
