It's day 3! Our next match-up is...
The Ernest P. Worrell Movie Universe (submitted by Brian)
vs.
Movies About Making Movies (submitted by Everett Parrott)
Ernest! This is something younger people might be totally unaware of, but if you're of a certain age, you remember him well. He's the character played by the late Jim Varney who started out in local TV commercials and went on to star in a franchise of feature films. He got scared stupid, saved Christmas, and went to camp, jail, and even Africa. Along the way he built up a huge fictional universe of supporting characters. Anyway this is a bizarre topic and it would be fun to talk about.
And then, getting a bit more highbrow, there are the many movies about making movies. 2022 was a big year for them, with awards contenders like The Fabelmans and Babylon. But Hollywood (and other international film industries) have been obsessed with looking inward since their very beginning. This video would look at everything from François Truffaut's Day for Night to Bowfinger to Son of Rambow. How accurate are these depictions of filmmaking? Why do filmmakers keep making movies about their own job? Does the general public care? What is inherently cinematic about making cinema? We'll find out (if it wins)!
And don't forget to vote in today's other match-up, 90s Legal Dramas vs. Sight and Sound 2022!

How else are we going to get an Ernest video? C'mon, lots of people talk about Hollywood talking about itself.

2023-01-22 04:05:48 +0000 UTCHe watched all the police academy stuff, so I don't think it's too far fetched to watch all the Ernest movies

2023-01-21 23:37:26 +0000 UTCYup, never seen an Ernest movie, but I'm certain a PHW video on it would be hilarious.

2023-01-21 23:13:55 +0000 UTCI loved the Police Academy video, too!
2023-01-21 22:33:25 +0000 UTCI just want an Ernest video because I feel like it would be a more entertaining version of the Police Academy video, both for us and for Patrick.
2023-01-21 22:33:10 +0000 UTCThis voting is very rude to Ernest imo

2023-01-21 22:19:56 +0000 UTCI signed in on my cell phone to vote for Ernest because you monsters are disrespecting him. Please rectify this as voting continues.
2023-01-21 22:15:13 +0000 UTCAlright, you flipped me.

2023-01-21 18:04:51 +0000 UTCYou know what, my instinct was Movies About Movies. The topic interests me, would make a decent video, and I've never seen an Earnest movie. But then I realized...this is our chance to force Patrick's hand. A video essay on Movies About Making Movies is absolutely something Patrick might decide on his own at some point. It's a safe bet. ...But would he ever think to subject himself to watching all of the Earnest movies?
2023-01-21 16:55:13 +0000 UTCI feel like the movies about movies is cat nip for Patrick fans, probably my pick to go all the way.
2023-01-21 16:50:33 +0000 UTCErnest P Worrell is an absolute gem. Jim Varney was terrific performer, gone far too soon, and his cinematic legacy has been relegated to the bargain bin for decades. Lets give him the thoughtful attention he deserves!
2023-01-21 16:30:39 +0000 UTCI'm here to add my support to the cause of Ernest. You don't even have to be nostalgic for Jim Varney to know how entertaining Patrick's video would be.

2023-01-21 16:27:52 +0000 UTCI just want to force Patrick to watch An Alan Smithee Film: Burn, Hollywood, Burn.

2023-01-21 16:26:59 +0000 UTCCome on, folks, Ernest is a national treasure. Regardless of the outcome, I would love to see an exploration of the character from his roots in commercials to his success in films. He is near and dear to my heart!
