RRR - The Biggest Blockbuster You've Never Heard Of

Also available ad-free on Nebula

Finally another new video!

If you follow me on twitter or know me in person you're well aware that for the past month or so I have been completely obsessed with the new Indian blockbuster RRR. It's all I talk about.

And even though this is one of the biggest Indian movies of all time, most westerners, and therefore most of my audience, are totally unaware of it. So I figured I should make a video about it.

This is another one co-written by the great Siddhant Adlakha, who this video would just not exist without. He's the one who introduced me to RRR in the first place, and for this video provided all the information and context about Indian cinema, and was on set to help me pronounce all the Indian names.

And yes, you can watch this without having seen RRR. It's made specifically for people who haven'y seen it.

FINALE UPDATE: stay tuned for some announcements this month...

Comments

RRR dropped on Netflix, and I finally had time to watch it. Pretty good. Pretty good. Very silly. Very entertaining. But that last act. Yeah I don't know much about Indian politics, but I know just enough because of friends and relations. Yeah that last act is jingoistic as hell. It's very, very Donald Trump Make America Great Again

thanks for convincing me to check this movie out, it truly ruled.

Regarding the accusation of being "nationalistic propaganda": That's is probably as true as the "Ip Man" movies (and and many more Chinese action movies of recent) being propagandistic / overtly nationalistic... *cough Wolf Warrior 2 cough*. It comes with the territory, I guess... And the issue with territory is that the CCP is extending that anyway.

Fridolin Bernstein

YES!! This movie rocked me to my core. Wish I’d seen it on opening weekend in nyc for those reactions.

I didn't need the Charl Saga recap video a year ago, but I probably do now.

Paul O'Regan

I don’t expect a Northman essay, but how about a Robert Eggers one at some point? I know, I know. The finale first.
