Taking Questions for the Next Video

Hey everyone - here's a little update on what's happening this month.

For the past few months I've been juggling post-production on the finale with making regular videos. I've made an effort to keep the videos smaller so I can handle both simultaneously, but at this point I really need to prioritize the finale and just get this damn thing done.

BUT there's still a video scheduled for November, so here's what it's going to be:

As I think I've mentioned here before, the finale ballooned in scale and has turned out to be a feature length movie . Making this thing with such limited resources has been a huge undertaking, and also a really educational one. So this month's video is going to be about the experience of making it, and basically what I learned from accidentally making a feature length film.

So if you have any questions about any of this, ask them here. I want this to be as educational and informative as possible for anyone interested in filmmaking, so let me know what you want to hear about!

And obviously, there will be no spoilers, so don't ask anything about specific story details.

A feature film was always going to be more work than a typical video, but has there been any specific part of making the season finale that surprised you in how much more time, energy or effort it has taken than what you expected?

Has going through this process made it seem more obtainable to start making indie feature films while still working on Youtube content or has it enforced that keeping up with both is too much? Do you have plans to keep the film making train rolling for a while?

How much influence do you have on other people's creative output (actors, d.o.p., editor etc.) on a project like this? Some directors/showrunners have control over every aspect of the project ( I guess like Kubrick or Wes) and some let them work on their own instincts (I read Denis Villeneuve tries to do this in his Reddit AMA.) Not trying to put down any of those methods, just curious.

Did you scout for locations before or after writing the script? Also can you do a quick equipment overview? Curious to see what you’re working with.

Did you guys do rehearsals before filming?

How are your stress levels? On a scale between Pure Blissful Relaxation and Total Continual Teeth Grinding Frazzlement where would you say you were generally?

How do you maintain your productivity, not only for major undertakings like a feature film but also making additional video essays on the side simultaneously? Asking as someone who struggles to be as productive as they'd like to be at, well, most things really.

What's the role of ~gear~ been in the creation of this? Movies are obviously shot on different cameras than your average video essay, but how much effort has gone into obtaining "cinematic" equipment vs thinking about using the gear you already have "cinematically"?

What filiming process (or processes) of the finale did you dread doing but turned out to be completely fine when actually filming

Was the expansion of the finale into a full-length film more a matter of realising the material you had would last that long or the idea developing as you made it?

Do you think about joining the film industry at some point in time? If yes, what would be your favourite job there? Director, or something else? And did this project encourage or discourage you from making further feature films?

What was the process that led to the finale increasing so much in scope like? Did you realize part of the way through that you had a lot more to add, or was it a bunch of small additions over time that eventually accumulated to being a feature length film?
