An Update On The Finale And Everything Else

Hello! It's been a while, and right away I want to thank all of you for your patience and for sticking around all summer while we've been releasing, uh, fewer videos than usual.

So let me tell you about what's been going on.

Way back in the spring, here's what we thought would happen: the last regular video (the one about trilogies) would drop at the very end of April, then we would spend the month of May shooting the finale, which would be a 20-30-minute short film, and then we'd release it in June and return to regular videos.

Here's what actually happened:

The last regular video (the one about trilogies) went way over schedule and dropped in MID-May. While I was editing it, Jake and Mike wrote the first draft of the finale script. Then, as planned, we went straight into shooting the finale, which we hoped to finish by the end of June.

As production continued, with us revising and expanding this script along the way, we realized that this was really a much, much bigger project than we had initially thought.

Oops, we accidentally made a feature-length movie.

The script is 77 pages, and I can't tell you for sure how long the finished film will be, but it's probably somewhere in the area of 70-80 minutes long. That's a lot to shoot, and it was complicated by having to coordinate the schedules of the cast, who have day jobs, and one of the lead actors lives 4 hours away.

But, as of a couple weeks ago, we got it done. Sure, there are some bits and pieces to pick up, but we've shot 95% of the script and wrapped everything with the core cast.

I'm writing this while sitting at JFK airport, about to head down for a working vacation to Bermuda, where I'll be getting some additional pickup shots, editing the movie, and shooting a new regular video.

Oh yeah...there is actually a regular YouTube video coming soon. You can relax, they're coming back.

So here's the current plan:

We try to finish the finale within the next month. I'm not going to give any estimate for a release date because I've been so completely wrong every time I've done so in the past. But right now, we want this thing to be as good as it can possibly be, and we want you all to see it as soon as possible.

While the finale is in post-production, we'll be returning to a semi-regular video schedule. The next few videos will be a bit smaller than the 30+ minute monsters we've been doing for the past year - I'm saving those until post-finale when we start the next season. So these videos won't have a narrative component. They'll be a bit smaller, probably related to the experience of spending a summer making a feature film and stuff I've been thinking about along the way.

So yeah, that's pretty much everything! Thank you all so much for your support this summer; taking this time off from regular videos has meant pausing my main source of income, so this wouldn't be possible without you patrons. We've all been working ridiculously hard to make something really fun, and I can't wait for you to see it.

So to tide you over, here are some behind the scenes shots:
