The Next Video
Added 2020-02-12 00:37:05 +0000 UTCIn the season premiere I said I would be making one Star Wars video. This is it. And it's hopefully the last video on the topic I ever make.
(so I guess I'd better say everything I have to say)

It's a followup to this video from 2 years ago. It's about how Star Wars has changed in those 2 years, and how my relationship with it has changed.
If you're looking for a big Rise of Skywalker takedown, this is not it (although I will talk about why that movie disappointed me). What I'm trying to do here is a levelheaded, non-hyperbolic video about my complicated feelings on Star Wars, so I can then set it aside and move on.
We'll see how that goes!
And if you're sick of Star Wars, yeah, I get it, I am, too, but just hang tight and we'll be done soon

I honestly don’t know what I want or expect out of Star Wars movies anymore. The last time I was genuinely thrilled was seeing The Last Jedi. Solo was a very average experience for me and I’m still upset that Lord and Miller didn’t get to finish their vision. I am a JJ fan through and through but Rise was missing something for me. It didn’t have the boundless wonder and excitement I was expecting. Everything just felt like it was coming to a conclusion and a badly thought out one at that. To be fair, I rank Return pretty low as well, so maybe I just enjoy the forward momentum and don’t care for the landing.

2020-02-12 19:55:01 +0000 UTCI've had a lot of complex emotions about Star Wars since Rise of Skywalker.... The prequel trilogy was an intriguing failure, the original trilogy has been repeatedly bastardized with "enhancements" and there are few options to see the original versions, and the sequel trilogy was aborted in its final installment (something that has soured the considerably good installments that preceded it). At this point, what do we really have left?
