THE NEXT VIDEO

Hey folks - after mostly taking the last couple days off from work, I'm back at it today. So I thought I'd let you know what the next video is, via a very obviously temporary thumbnail.

To clarify the goal here: it's not to throw out everything the Matrix sequels attempted and write fan fiction. This is essentially a script doctor challenge, 16 years later. How do we keep the essence of the Matrix sequels, the themes, ideas, and much of the structure, but adjust the narrative to make it more effective?

And to be clear, I like a lot of stuff in these movies. This is a topic I've thought about on and off for years, so I figured it was finally time to actually dive into it.

This will be out some time next week.

Yup, I've seen it! And I think what he hits on there, the way the sequels subvert the chosen one narrative of the first film, is the most important thing about them. That has to stay.

Sounds great! Just one thought: To "adjust the narrative" you have to determine, what the overall narrative really is! For example, Moviebob argues that the sequels were a deconstruction of the moral architecture of the first movie. The Wachowskis felt that to be necesssary in order to counter the interpretation of the self-described "red pillers" that THEY are oppressed and have to lash out in violence. https://vimeo.com/323075645 (the moral architecture: 35:55-44:17, the deconstruction of said architecture: 44:17-50:33) I'm excited to see, what you guys make out of this!

Hey Patrick, I'm curious a) whether you know about fanedits as a thing, and b) have ever watched any of the Matrix sequel cuts. There have been a number of different angles attempted, like removing the Zion scenes which actually heightens the tension a bit by keep the tone closer to the original / portraying soldiers on the front lines of the Matrix and the real world. Another edit does an interesting loop back around to the beginning of the first Matrix, implying that the system was reset. Anyway, enough rambling, hope you find something interesting out of it. Each edit should provide an extensive list of changes: https://ifdb.fanedit.org/fanedit-search/tag/franchise/the-matrix/
