The Storytelling Language of Star Wars

They said it couldn't be done, but we did it. We made a non-controversial video about Star Wars!

The spark of this idea came when I was watching The Last Jedi and realized it was the first Star Wars movie to ever use slow motion. Which is crazy for a series that's been around for 40 years.

And since I'm a big weird nerd who likes sitting around analyzing the cinematic language in my favorite movies, I thought it would be fun to go through THE ENTIRE SERIES (only the movies, doing the TV shows as well would kill me) and exploring how the storytelling vocabulary of these movies changed.

Also Jake sings a song at the end and I wear a fake beard so we crammed in some weird shit, too.

Well done Patrick.. I am one of the old schoolers that thinks EpIV is where the magic is. I get that Kirschner brought a higher degree of story telling nuance to his part of the saga but for me the conversation between Luke & Ben in Ben's Tat-joint makes me still contemplate ... All of it. Thanks for giving us a way to look at these films with a different eye, without diving into the fan chewing gum.. it gave me some... HOPE. Seattle Davis

There’s slow motion in both Empire and TFA, but fair enough. TLJ uses slow mo in a much more obvious and deliberate way. I’m already greatly looking forward to watching this video!!!
