Anatomy of a Perfect Action Scene (AND THE START OF A NEW SERIES)

I didn't actually have a topic for this week's video until five days ago. I had several different ideas, but couldn't nail one down, and then, sitting in the San Francisco airport as my redeye back to New York got delayed for another hour, I had an idea: make them all into a series.

So here we are, with the first episode of Blue Flame Special (the title taken from an expression I'm pretty sure was made up for Point Break), a series all about how and why action scenes work.

This first episode is all about one of my personal favorite action scenes: the climactic train chase from "The Wrong Trousers."

Is this the first Wallace and Gromit video essay on the internet? Maybe!

This series won't be weekly, since making more than two video essays per month makes me want to kill myself, but new episodes will be released periodically for the next several months.

This is going to be a lot of fun.
